Bangkok Cinema Scene: April 30-May 7, 2008

After a hiatus with this feature, I'm going to try and restart, though I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep this up. It's taken me awhile to adjust from working on a weekly section (RIP Weekend) to the Daily Xpress, so we'll just see how this goes.Opening on Wednesday, a day earlier than usual, the big release this week is Iron Man, starring a wisecracking Robert Downey Jr. as a billionaire weapons i....

Aditya Assarat retrospective tomorrow night

Indie director Aditya Assarat, whose debut solo feature Wonderful Town has been burning up the international festival circuit, will have a retrospective of his four short films tomorrow night at the Bioscope Theatre in Bangkok.The four shorts are his master's thesis project, Motorcycle, which has won many awards, Waiting, Boy Genius and Boy Genius 2: The Sign.The show starts at 7pm. Admission is free....

Jackie and Jet reign at the box office

Myself as part of the FCCT's Contemporary World Cinema series.Me ... Myself was also among the seven Thai films featured at this year's Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy.I can just about use just my fingers to count the films....
