Mitr Chaibancha was Thailand's reigning action film hero from the late 1950s until he died in 1970, in a fall from a rope ladder on a helicopter, while filming a stunt for the film, Insee Tong. He was in hundreds of film, though I've only seen a couple - Insee Tong, which is on DVD with English subs (miraculously), available in local DVD shops, and 1965's Ngern Ngern Ngern, which the Thai Film Foundation has on subtitled DVD. Apparently, I missed a big Mitr fest over the weekend. But, I'm informed it goes on every year. So maybe next year? Somebody let me know, okay? |
