Note: I have made two entries for photos to make it quicker to upload the page. These are photos taken during my 3-day trip to Gaya and Vanarasi where I visited Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and the Gonga River. I've written about it here
Day One: Gaya At the entrance of the Bodh Gaya
Inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site's the Mahabodhi Temple
My first sight of the temple
A bird's eye view of the temple area.
This pond is said to be where the Lord Buddha took bath as he spent time in this area after he was enlightened.
On the side of the temple, you can notice many statue. This is the one that is believed to be the next Buddha.
People pay respects at the place where it is said the Lord Buddha spent his 3rd week (after the enlightment) walking up and down in meditation. The sign reads Cankamana where the lotuses indicate the places where the Lord's feet rested.
Some parts of the fence were built dated back to the King Asoka.
Detail of the fence - I don't even know how old is this piece of art.
I really love the colourful flower decoration. When I went back to pay my respect before leaving Gaya, the work just started. It must be so pretty when it finished.
Meditation is common around the temple. This is an ideal place for praying and meditating. ****** end of first Part. |
