Kidnapped at the Airport by the Royal Thai Police

It is such a shame. The damage done by the staff, security officers and the Royal Thai Police is irreparable. The word has been spread faster than one could imagine. All my friends in the west have heard about the nightmare that has been going on at the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Are the police not supposed to protect the passengers? Apparently not. The police at the airport may kidnap you and hold you to ransom. They may produce non existent evidence that you have been shoplifting and you WILL end up rotting in a thai prison unless you pay. It is their word against yours. The tourists are helpless when dealing with the mafia-police controlling the airport.

We are not talking about small money here. We are talking about Bth 500,000 and up. Somebody at the airport is getting rich and at the same time destroying the reputation of the whole Thai Nation.

Why do the thai journalists not do some investigative journalism for once? It can't be all that difficult to find the mastermind. Why does PM Abhisit not step in and arrest the culprits?

Why don't the district attorney's office step in and investigate?

How many british tourists arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport every year? 800,000 people maybe. One couple, just one couple out of 800,000 people experiencing this kind of hostage/ransom situation is enough to totally destroy the reputation of Thailand.

Now others stories about the daily scams at the Bangkok International Airport is flooding the internet. Diamond rings, gold and large sums of cash mysteriously disappearing when the tourists go through the airport scanners. The Airport will NOT cooperate.

I am warning as many people as I can. Do NOT shop at the Duty Free shops. Do NOT talk to the authorities at the airport. Always check your bags and put a strong lock on them. Do not let anybody come near you. Be very suspicious and be very careful.

The ones doing this are not scared. They must be too powerful to fear being arrested.

I just find it unbelievable that this kind of illegal activities have been allowed to go on for so long. The true nature of The Royal Thai Police has been exposed to the world.

We got to have the real legal facts before passing judgement. Remember the initial media frenzy surrounding the Australian shela in Puket and later realize that she was not the victim but the perpetrator. I have my reservation on media informaion.

Expresso, 15. Normally a friendly quiet manner works best when dealing with Asian officials. However, there are times when if all else fails creating a fuss is more effective. But you have to know the right way to do it

I'm saying: Don't use your 'superiority complex' when you deal with matters. Respect others and they would respect you in return....Oh, another thing, dress properly!

GGrass,

Are you kidding me? Hey, don't laugh at my Thai. My Thai is the same way as my English and Chinese. Here are the translations:

Officer: hi muan bye, yum mai yon pai rue? (Let you go and you still don't want to go?)

Me: pom pai nair nom si khrap, pom dong pai daiwan. dae wah, khun tun mai mai chai mayooyak noi si khrap? khun kii waa khun puu yangyi beng sing thee dee rue. jai yen yen noi si khrap, nong. (I go for sure. I need to go to Taiwan. But why don't you use some manner? Do you think the way you speak is good? Cool it, little brother.)

Now, GG, do you understand my Thai?

Noi beit (200 bahts in Teochiew) was what I used to pay at the airport 20 years ago when I was a permanent resident!

About 10 years ago, I was flying to Taiwan. The immigration took me into a room. There in the room two Nigerians were there also. An officer flipped over pages of my passport. I sat quiet.

After about 5 minutes, the officer waved me off. A subordinate spoke loud to me like I had just been pardoned. I said calmly to him why he acted like I was a criminal who'd just been pardon. He said, "Just go, go, go..." I told him, "Sure I would go but you need to have some manner when you carry out your job." I communicated in Thai, of course, though he knew I wasn't born here. He shut up anyway. Man, it's all about knowing oneself and the others!

Similar scams have operated for years in some of the big malls, the type of mall that is filled with concession stalls. It usually involves the security guards and the shop assistant.

It does not make pleasant reading.

Read it through till the end.

In the U. S., they do not let you put a lock on your bags for security reasons (they want to be able to look through your luggage). I did once (after 9/11) and they cut them off in Detriot.

That's what happens with the Internet. Bad news travels fast ! Not content with scaring off tourists by invading the airport. Having the occasional coup against an elected government. The Thai coppers are running this scam.

There are many alternatives and tourists vote with their feet.

"Don't want them here anyway!" I can hear the Abhisit corrupt men in suits supporters muttering away. Some inhabit these blogs.

No Money, No Honey - Thai style.

I have often been told the Thais will never'kill the goose that lays the golden egg'.

It looks like they just have?

Duh !!!

I think we are seeing two factors operating here, firstly Thais are getting too desperate for money, secondly because of the reduced spending power of Farangs we are less likely to just philosophically accept these ripoffs.
