A decade-long debate in Thai academic circles centers on the authenticity of the Ramkhamhaeng inscription. This inscription, incised on a block of gray schist, was discovered in Sukhothai in 1833 by the future King Mongkut while he was still a monk. THE ALLURE OF ISLAM--RELIGION OF PEACE

I often wondered what allure Islam holds for the Malay people. Buddhism also holds an allure for Thais and other mainland Southeast Asians but not—I would argue—in the same way or to the same extent.Let me make myself clear. A Thai can claim he's a Buddhist and yet never go to a wat, never pray, never take part in any religious ceremony, and no one would think the worse of him. But for ....
