Russia and China are ready to dump US dollars

BEIJING, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to consider using the Russian and Chinese national currencies instead of the dollar in bilateral oil and gas dealings, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

The premier, currently on a visit to Beijing, said a final decision on the issue can only be made after a thorough expert analysis.

"Yesterday, energy companies, in particular Gazprom, raised the question of using the national currency. We are ready to examine the possibility of selling energy resources for rubles, but our Chinese partners need rubles for that. We are also ready to sell for yuans," Putin said.

He stressed that "there should be a balance here."

On Tuesday, Russia and China agreed terms for Russian gas deliveries at a level of up to 70 billion cubic meters a year. China also imports oil from Russia.

The Russian prime minister said the issue would be addressed among others at a meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) finance ministers, who are to convene before the end of the year in Kazakhstan.

Britain's Independent newspaper reported last Tuesday that Russian officials had held "secret meetings" with Arab states, China and France on ending the use of the U.S. dollar in international oil trade.

The countries are reportedly seeking to switch from the dollar to a basket of currencies including the euro, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan, gold, and a new unified currency of leading Arab oil producing countries.

The Independent said the meetings have been confirmed by Chinese and Arab banking sources.

Chavez is a joke. I don't think any currency he invents will have much value. The S. American region is still too unstable to establish a stable currency for the region. Zelaya is pissed bvefore he was thrown out before he could make himself "President for Life" like Chavez did. Chavez is pissed over this too. Alot of conserbvatives and independents in the U. S. are puzzled by Obama seemingly taking side with Zelaya since he was merely trying to extend his time in power, rather than obey their constitution.

At the moment, in rank order, the main trading currencies are the USD, Euro, Yen, GBP, other than for local trade purposes there seems little to be gained in creating more.

Bolivia summit adopts new currency

Morales, left, and Chavez, were among the Alba leaders who praised the new currency [AFP]

Leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean have agreed during a summit in Bolivia on creation of a regional currency aimed at reducing the use of the US dollar.

The decision came shortly after members of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (Alba) gathered in the central city of Cochabamba for the start of the two-day summit, the AFP news agency reported.

Top on the agenda for the left-leaning regional trade group, which includes Venezuela, Ecuador and Nicaragua, were talks to implement the new currency, known as the sucre, for use among Alba nations.

"The document is approved," Evo Morales, Bolivia's president and summit host, said on Friday.

Earlier, Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, described the new currency as a "revolution of paradigms".

"The sucre is born in the Alba," Chavez said ahead of the meeting.

"The sucre - an autonomous and sovereign monetary system that will be agreed upon today so that it can be implemented in 2010."

Coup criticism

The Alba leaders were also expected to discuss climate change and trade issues during the summit, as well as renew their criticism of the June coup in Honduras.

The coup forced Manuel Zelaya from office on the same day that he planned to hold a non-binding referendum on changes to the Honduran constitution.

"They have shown their claws again in Honduras and overthrown a legitimate, democratic and progressive government; an ALBA government of the Bolivarian Alliance," Venezuela's Chavez said.

"And they aim for legitimacy before a world community that does not recognise them. The coup in Honduras will be defeated, history will defeat them, they are already defeated."

Zelaya's overthrow was roundly criticised by Latin American countries, including Alba members, and the US.

Talks to resolve the political crisis in Honduras are continuing.

Although both countries are seeking for alternative trade currency beside united states dollar,
China is not ready to dump usd because they keep huge savings (fx reserves) with American banks inside USA territory.

What China is worried is the value of their usd saving is quickly dwindled, by devaluation of usd.

For instance with 2 trillion dollars, they could buy 500 mines overseas now but if usd be devaluated by 30%, they could buy only 350 mines.

This is the unbearable loss to China. Therefore China might be supposed to boost US economy to boost USD value.

Thailand keeps 30 billion dollars in US. If it lose 30% value, 10 billion dollars will disappear.
Thailand must export chicken, 10 billion heads to recover the loss.

The moves by Russia and China to replace the U. S. dollar as the world's currency is more political than economic and it has been helped along immensely by the policies of G. W. Bush and B. Obama and the congress. I'm thinking of getting rid of my dollars and I live here! Unfortunately for me, virtually everything i have has to stay in dollars so I guess I can just watch them decrease in value.

The writing has been on the wall for many years for the US Dollar's demise. The continued fiscal and budgetary irresponsibilities exhibited by both Republican- and Democrat-led governments in the US have only served to confirm and cement the trend.

There is a profound responsibility associated with maintaining the US Dollar as a reserve currency and not just prestige. If successive US governments are unable or unwilling to shoulder this responsibility and act accordingly, and not just continue to blah-blah-balh about having a "strong dollar policy" while doing absolutely nothng about mending and shoring up their monetary and fiscal policies and behaviors, then why all the bloody fuss about maintaining the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency and preferred medium of exchange or international trade and commerce? Such hypocrites!

Just as Rome was once an almighty and undefeatable super power with a far-flung empire that eventually suffered from moral decay in its society and was eventually obliterated by its enemies because of its weak and corrupted leadership, so shall be the fate of all modern "empires" and super powers if their people and leaders do not choose to follow the honest and righteous path as laid out by the almighty Creator and Heavenly Father.
