Official documents confirming Thaksin Shinawatra's resignation as economic adviser to Cambodian Premier Hun Sen and Cambodian government have been published on two websites: Khmer NZ News and www.khmerization.blogspot.com.

Both the government statement and the royal decree say that Thaksin's resignation was effective as of Aug 23 (today).

The documents lauded Thaksin's contributions to Cambodia's developments.

"Mr Thaksin Shinawatra had made very important contributions in dispending advices, in providing vision and had brought abundant experiences to help promote Cambodia's competitiveness, especially in trade, investment, agriculture and tourism sectors. His Excellency had helped to attract large investors to have interest in Cambodia's potentials in the abgovementioned sectors..." the statement says.

The statement added: "Due to his personal difficulties in the fulfillment of his role, His Excellency Thaksin Shinawatra had asked to be releived of his position."

The statement added that the government of Cambodia accepts Thaksin's resignation and thanked hm for his many contributions to Cambodia's economy.

Thaksin was made adviser to the Cambodian government on Oct 27, last year, a move that prompted the Thai government to recall its ambassador.

Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva said today that he might send the ambassador back to Phnom Penh tomorrow to resume diplomatic relations after Thaksin's resignation as adviser to the Cambodian goernment.

The fugitive, Shinawatra, has realised that his plan to use Cambodia in his attempts to bring down the elected government of Thailand via the red shirt mobs riots has failed miserably.
The jungle bunny Hun Sen has also realised that Shinawatra was a bad idea on his part, so a parting of the ways.

Stal, "the growing strength of Apisit's political position." is based on threats and coercion, backed by the military. Hence it is not a true political strength based on the ballot box.

A surprise. Maybe Hun Sen wants to send a message: "now I cut off Thaksin, how about you? Can you abandon PAD, which is a major obstacle for the negotiation? "

Friendship of both seems pretty mature now, that does not need any a paper. A half of whole Thailand is firmly reined by twin chariot riders. What a fun !

Not hard to explain. As Thai-Cambodian tensions rise over Khao Praviharn, Thaksin can see that this is an emotional issue for Thais, and can see that the Democrats are going to make hay about this and implicate Thaksin using the fact of his being an advisor to a future enemy (if clashes or a cold war erupts), in the upcoming election campaign. So he decided to cut loss. No point in becoming a high profile advisor to Hun Sen, when the costs in terms of public disapproval (of Hun Sen) exceed the benefits of remaining so.

What are the benefits anyway? If he wanted a slice of Kampuchean soil as sanctuary or springboard for red shirt insurgency, he can get it through other means (Machiavelli would have suggested a simple bribe conditional on performance).

As for Hun Sen, there is the prospect of PM Apisit remaining in power for some time and also no point in attaching his name and prestige to a possibly waning star. So getting rid of Thaksin overtly can gain him some benefits when dealing with Apisit. Besides, both Thaksin and Hun Sen can always come together secretly later if need be. Remember that alliances are affairs of convenience.

But what this shows is that the players are realigning their position to take into account the growing strength of Apisit's political position.

It also indicates something about Thaksin's fire. How is it? You tell me. Haven't heard about him for some time. I would say he is at the reflective stage, after the May fiasco.

FM said envoy back to Phnom Penh tomorrow, PM says he might go tomorrow, why so eager to kick the football to the other side without realizing what they are up to? One is playing hard to get, our play grabs all. Let see when they send theirs over.
