One of the most grateful moments in my lifetime

Last Sunday (Oct 7, 2007), HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Bad Homburg's museum "Gotisches Haus" as it hosted an exhibition about the centennial visit of King Chulalongkorn's to Bad Homburg.

I was so fortunate to be able to capture some of the princess' pictures, because the nature of the visit is private and not many people were informed.

The princess was greeted by the mayor, Dr. Ursula Jungherr.

The director of museum led the Crown Princess to the exhibition.
As soon as the princess  arrived the exhibition area, she picked up her notebook and began taking notes.

The museum director, Ursula Stiehler, was telling the princess about Dr. von Noorden who treated King Chulalongkorn back then.

This section is about King Chulalongkorn's fond in photography.

Apparently, the princess also enjoyed taking pictures :D

The princess and the mayor.
The princess was wearing "Homburg Hut" which was named after this spa city.
King Chulalongkorn also wore it during his visit.

I have never thought that, in my life, I would have such an opportunity to take the pictures of her this close.

The princess was really interested in the exhibition.
She asked questions and took notes all the time.

The princess gave token of appreciation to the mayor

and the museum director.

I could not describe how grateful I was (and am) to have such a chance. All I could say is my eyes were full of tears (so much that I almost couldn't take the pictures).

Hope you are enjoying the photos,  like I do.

Thank you.

one added comment directed to Camel:

Sometimes, it is better to remain silent and thought to be a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Camel, think about it.

Let me guess... Comment #11 by camel is an example of someone who is NOT "Poo Dee"... such a pathetic and ill-informed comment.

Although the king of Thailand was, indeed, born in the USA, thus confering citizenship by right of birth, I would imagine his citizenship was either surrendered or revoked upon ascending the throne in Thailand. As a sovereign head-of-state of a foreign country, I very much doubt he can legally maintain the status of a citizen of the USA, even though he is well-regarded by the US government. Just my 2 satang.

GGrass - I was thanking Sopaporn for sharing. I guess that was what got you confused?

Ian - Thank you for respecting our culture. That is the true spirit of what we Thai call "Poo Dee" (a person with real class) -- the ability to accept the differences of ideas and belief, and the graciousness to give them proper respect without being condescending.

And as for your last question... hmm.... I think we will let you have one up on us for that. ;-)

Comment4 , hits the nail on the head, I can respect the Thai feelings for their Royal family, but find it impossible to rationalise at an intellectual level. I think your comparison with Christians is probably true, you see him as a god. Even though he was born in America and educated in Switzerland.
In the 60's I once sat in a club next to the table at which the Queen's sister was sitting with friends, my primary emotion was annoyance the she was getting much better service than us others:-)
Thus out of respect for your culture and people we will show the appropriate respect for your Royal family but I don't thing many farangs can adopt the Thai's emotional attitude.
Could your Prince Royal ever appear in court on a charge of dangerous driving? Ours did

Keep walking forward. Don't give up. Don't fed up.

Ian, I wondered also.
I like the last picture the princess adorably smiled.

Thanks for sharing.

This is something I think is unique to the Thai -- our love and admiration for the Royal family.

It is difficult for people who have not really understood Thai mentality to truly appreciate the profound feelings the Thai have. I once tried to explain that to some non-Thais that the feeling is probably somewhat similar to what Christians feel towards God. Some get it, others did not.

the closest i ever got to HR princess was at my university, TU... i was studying in SIIT, 'Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology'.

as the name suggests, it's founded by HR princess. she came for some sort of observation. i was about 15 meters from her when she walked by...

You have left me wondering how you happened to be there and how you were allowed such photos. Or was this an official assignment for you?.
