Bob Bogle... the Ventures

"Walk don't run"  The Ventures as performed by an 8 years old Chicchi.

Bob Bogle was a lead guitarist of the Ventures. I didn’t know his  name until today when I read that he  passed away this past Sunday.   He was  75 years old.

Listen to his music, I am sure that some of the (older)people around here would know him.  RIP, may God bless his soul.

But I believe some gangsters that work under the directive of the gray(at the airport), khaki, and green uniform people are doing very well.

Alien, FYI : last week the local LAPD and the FBI arrested a Mexican man, who is a director of a non profit organization with its main purpose is preventing someone to join a gang. The reason for his arrest is that he is still an active memmber of the gang.

I had friends in my teenage years. We swore an oath among the ten of us. I was the only one who finished high school and carried on.

Some among the 10 of us had died, from drug, jumping off buildings, killed in gang war! I'm glad that among the 4 big families, 3 family heads were my blood brothers. I don't know if they are mafia or not but I'm glad that I'm often respected when I meet them.

I think that the gangs most heavily involved in drugs are the hispanic gangs, (mostly Mexican, now) followed by the black gangs, (Crypts and Bloods) and the biker gangs (Hell's Angels, Outlaws, etc.). The U. S. seems to be a breeding place for gangs now.

Ever since the "RICO" (Rackateer Influenced Crime Organization) has been instituted, the deck is stacked against the organized crime groups and the sentences are much more severe. That is why so many of them now testify against the other people in their organizations. It's either that or spend the rest of your life in prison. It should be noted that American prisons, while not as bad as some other countries, are alot worse than Guantanamo Bay. American prisons have alot of gang activity. Even if you are a Russian mafia in an American prison, I don't thing that Aryan Nation or the Bloods or Crypts are too impressed. Now you're in their territory.

Comment 63, no, they are still there. They are a shadow of their former selves as so many have been thrown in jail for long stretches. I hear now that the Russian mob has grown in N. Y. but they still have to watch out for the Italian mafia families and the Irish mob (The Westies). No matter how many go to jail, there are those who would take their place as it is like "money for nothing". These people don't work hard. The bad side (for them) is that they are targeted pretty quickly by the government and their prison terms are usually pretty severe. A lot of them will die in prison.

The piece may have been sold for the price of your trip to the moon today. For me, I have never seen any of the Beatles in person. I hope to see Sir Paul’s concert someday.

Incidentally, I saw “The Hound of Baskerville” two years ago. I borrowed the film from the village library. It is in B&W starred Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. The movie was excellent. I wonder if that Rathbone Street may have been named in the honor of Basil Rathbone

Soho is a maze of small streets an alleyways, many of the studios where I worked were in Soho square. One time because I lived in Soho I was asked to take out for the evening a group of four young Scouse musicians down for a recording session, they were called the Beatles. So I set out showing them around the pubs and clubs, we got as far as the "Duke of York" (corner of Rathbone street) and discovered the their drummer "Ringo" had gone missing. I passed the word around but it was 2am before we found him, he had been enticed into a "clip joint".

The Duke of York had a resident film star, a large Great Dane called "colonel" (perhaps because the pub owner was a retired major). This dog played the role of the hound in the 1959 production of "Hound of the Baskervilles"
http://www.britmovie.co.uk/genres/horror/filmography/004.html
This dog was huge, and had an appetite for beer, regulars knew to keep their hands on their beer, if you put the beer glass on the table he would amble past and with three gulps it would be empty. I used to sometimes take him over the park for exercise, forunately he was very well trained.

Thus, I have read from somewhere that Mick Jagger is truly a stingy person. His trying to get a free smoke from the others just proved to me that what is said and what you said about him is true.

But I wonder what keeps this man looking nice and trim. His hair is black, long, and flowing just like a teenage boy. If I have to make a guess, it has to be that good quality marijuana from Mendocino county of California

Comment 44 - Steven Segal did have some problems with the mafia in N. Y. Apparently they were shaking him down for money under the threat of bodily harm. It would be extremely unlikely for them to be able to do this unless he ran into them through gambling or some other vice. They rarly ever mess with law abiding people in the U. S. This is because in the U. S., the law abiding person will usually go to the police and the mobster ends up in jail for a long time.

Iceberg, 45. Now that Noonin can be ignored perhaps a tale of Mick Jagger might be of interest. I first met him as a 19 year old weekender. A weekender was what we called someone who didn't actually live in Soho but spent his weekends there.
He usually hung out at a pub called the"one tun" but was usually called "Finches". He was a bit of a parasite would spend the evening with a pint of beer and try to bum smokes off the regulars. He carried a guitar as a visual prop but could not play it.
One one occassion he and a West Indian friend tried to gate crash one of my parties I slammed the door in his face just as he was stepping forward, it reshaped his nose
I doubt if he remembers me, although when he looks in the mirror he might have a dim memory.

I have known many famous music artists, but they wer not famous at that time (except one). I lived in Soho during the 60's, I was a talent scout for several clubs and a freelance recording engineer for several studios including the BBC.
For those of you who know London, Soho is a square mile in the centre of the City, it was a village community of about 1000 residents, like any village we all knew each other. The fact that Soho happened to be the centre of the Pop music industry simply meant that many of my mates were on the Pop scene and later went on to become famous.
This is just the way thing were, I do not drop names, rather I was saying that I perhaps know more about the background of many stars than otherwise I would know.
I could tell you many funny/interesting stories but will refrain as it would upset Noonin and Expresso

noonin can drop names, but he's a nobody just like me. Loong Ian is different. Dropping names from Loong Ian can impress many but apparently not to noonin.

Dropping names, everybody can do, but they are skin-deep.

For example, I say I know Tang Kwong Wing (you don't know him), Chou Yun Fai, Chan Lung, Li Lian-fa (Jack Li), Lui Leung Wai, Mai Shui (Mee Shirt in Thai), you wouldn't believe me. Hey, I really know them. But they don't know me

I also know Steven Segal. I translated for my friend for the director, Chan Siu Tung, the script from English to Chinese when he shot the film "Belly of the beast" at Ram 42(?). Yeah, I know him too, so to speak! He doesn't know me neither, but I think he wai me in an awkward way though

Well, not all night long. I remember the instance that I sent my gf (now my wife) home at 11pm. She gave me an apple (from America or Japan) to take home to give to my mother so she wouldn't scold me for coming home late. On my way home, I stopped at the dance hall to meet my gang, which my gf forbid me to interact. While there, a girl in the gang asked me to dance, a slow dance. Heck, we knew then slow dance meant putting both hands behind the partner's waist or below. While dancing another girl ate the apple.

The next day, a backstabber told my gf that I did a slow dance with this girl. Man, I got my ear pinched. Oui, jep mak mak(painful)

Even though I'm an immigrant myself, I detest other immigrants who, before they grasp the values of the country, demand their rights and freedom with no bound.

A few years ago, my daughter told me that the word 'Oriental' is regarded as discriminatory, 'Asian' is the proper word. What the fcuk!

Now I'm really fcuk on what words are proper!

Is Chicano proper? Is wetback proper? Is spic proper? Is negro proper? Is black proper? Is negro proper? Is chink proper? Oh, I know this one, it's not proper. But I call me chink anyway. So, big deal!

ice, this song is very familiar to me but I have not heard of it for decades.

When I hear this song it reminds me of my teenage years doing our things in dancing parties. Even in those short years, we went from twist, to shake, to a-go-go, to Tahiti, not exactly in the same order though.

Good music and thanks for posting. peacefulness is a music fan I reckon.

Khun Ian, thank you very much krab. That is why I saw in YOUTUBE Cliff Richard and the Shadows together. Cliff is really forever young.

Iceberg, 8. The Shadows were the original backing group for Cliff Richards until Cliff went solo. The Ventures covered many of the Shadows music often so closely you cannot tell them apart.

Naive, check into YOUTUBE for both bands, the Ventures and the Shadows. They are super, especially the song Apache. But I wonder why they played the same song and it sounds exactly the same.

Peacefulness, thank you very much. I have not seen the 1965 picture before. I think that The Ventures were very famous in Japan and Thailand, somewhere else not many people know them.

I have heard their music often but I didn't know that it was them

So true that we are getting old. Good musicians like The Ventures are disappearing

Shadows, Ventures, Duane Eddy, which were best?
