A New Passport for the Fugitive? |
Why is it that the Thai media never gets tired of writing, talking and speculating about Thugsin SHITnawatra? Never a day goes by without some news or gossip surrounding the Mother of All Thai Crooks. Take for example the rumors surrounding his having obtained a diplomatic passport from Nicaragua, a poor Central American country that is ruled by a Sandinista dictator named Jose Daniel Ortega Saavedra (pictured below).
Much of Nicaragua's politics since independence from Spain in 1821 has been characterized by the rivalry between the Liberal elite of Leon and the Conservative elite of Granada, which often led to civil war. The country has for many years been plaqued by widespread underemployment, affecting some 40 to 50 percent of the working population. The country has the second lowest per capita income in the Western Hemisphere according to the CIA World Factbook 2008. Up to now it is still not clear how and whether the Fugitive Convicted Criminal Thugsin SHITnawatra really did obtain a passport from this country or not. Like the previous ludicrous story about his foreys into the Bahamas, this rumor could prove to be just another false spin. Press reports in Nicaragua confirming Thugsin's special ambassador status does not necessarily mean he was granted honorary citizenship with a travel document that can take him anywhere in the world. This article in The Nation/Asia News Network says "No Nicaraguan Passport for Thugsin." Link: http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20090417-135807.html I am therefore amused as to the objectives and intentions of Thugsin in obtaining a passport from a country like Nicaragua or spreading a rumor of such. Perhaps his first assignment as Nicaragua's "Ambassador with a Special Mission" was to neutralize one of his fiercest critics and most hated opponents in the peaceful city of Angels by the Chao Phya River? Food for thought. By the way, I hope the P.M. and the Ministry of Interior will seriously look into the revokation of Thugsin's Thai citizenship as soon as it is known for sure that he has obtained citizenship, hence passport, from another country. Officially Thailand supposedly does not recognize dual citizenships for it's nationals. And the government should also seriously consider freezing ALL of Thugsin's assets and use them to settle all of his and his family members' outstanding unpaid taxes, fines and penalties such as the Baht100 Billion owed to the Prime Minister's Office for the ITV breach of contractual obligations case when ITV was still a part of SHIN Corp. Only after all of his and his family members' outstanding taxes, debts, fines and penalties have been settled in full with the Revenue Department can the remaining balance, if any, be returnable to him, provided he shows acceptable and documented proof of full income tax payments on ALL of his assets. Fair enough? |
