Thaksins use of metaphor |
Nomad Thaksin Shinawatra has been using alot of metaphors while speaking to the foreign media, which I am sure is not his subconcious way of speaking but rather planned to give an effect. A lot of his metaphors portray him as the weak one, saying that he is a "tamed dog" or "Nobita" while conveying the government as "starving tiger." In Dubai: I am a domestic dog that can be tamed any time. I'm tame already and I can be tamed again.
Hong Kong: "When a tiger is hungry he sleeps." And he compares the government to a starving tiger.

While he is travelling all around the world, one can only guess what he is doing. He had said long time ago that he will not deal with politics, so is this portrayal of him as a dog, meant to make people sympathize more with him, and let others see him as victim and not the culprit? Looking from a literature critic point of view, the metaphor is meant to give images, pictures, and comparisons of an idea. So basically by talking in metaphors, Thaksin gives a clearer view of what he is talking about, as everyone will have to analyze what he is saying. The more figures of speech you use, the more it provokes thought. In this case, it also probably provokes some anger from the government as well. Thaksin probably won't make a good English teacher though, as figures of speech and language are meant to mend the gap on a bridge rather than break it. Communication is meant to bring understanding, not slippers flying around everywhere. Oh and don't forget the last one. "The two kids"
