How Would the British Government Handle This Situation?

One well educated and esteemed Englishman insinuated that I am an idiot because of my insistence that Toxin and his wife be brought back to Thailand to face trial.  I will not say who called me names here for it is not important.  He knows who he is.  However, I would like to ask this esteemed gentleman the following questions.

If a notorious British criminal, say an ex-high-level government official who embezzled millions, if not billions, of tax money from the British Treasury through abuse of power and corruption, were to somehow jump bail and escape England with his loot while being prosecuted by the British authorities.

Let's assume that this crook somehow slipped into Thailand or some other third-world or fourth-world country and went about his merry way to enjoy his loot and proceeded to apply for asylum, claiming that he could not get a fair trial in British courts and that his life will be in danger if he returns to England.

Meanwhile, several arrest warrants were issued by British courts to nap this criminal as soon as possible to face trial, what do you think the British Foreign Office, British Police, Scotland Yard or maybe MI5 or MI6 would do to get this criminal back to the UK as quickly as possible?

Don't pretend that you do not know and don't give an excuse that it could not happen in England.  Just give me an honest, just and realistic answer.  Do you expect the British government and police to dilly dally, drag their feet, pretend that nothing happened and do nothing?  What will be the reaction of the British public and citizens if the government did nothing whatsoever to pursue and arrest the criminal?
