A Thai Living Aboard--my trip to Chicago

I decided to take a trip to Chicago last weekend to renew my passport. Chicago isn't that far from Indianapolis, really. It took me about 3 hours to get there driving.

The trip would have been a real hassle if I didn't have my boyfriend driving me up there. For some reasons, the last snow (supposingly) was hitting the windy city big time that Saturday. On the way there, the closer I got to Chicago, the more snow was coming down. To make the matter worse, Thai embassy happens to locate right in the downtown area. I'm talking about the VERY downtown, downtown area (think Silom at rush hours.) Meter parking was out of the picture. Parking garages were available at interesting rates (think $40 for an hour or something similar to that.)

Since I have a driver with me, my boyfriend did the stand-by and I ran inside the embassy. I must say Thai embassy does have quality services going on...fast and friendly services.

Heading out of the embassy. I noticed a Thai restaurant right next door. Running back inside the embassy, they confirmed the restaurant as a-Thai-will-like-it.

After we finished our lunch, foods were so good that I didn't want to head home. Thai restaurants in Indianapolis suck (for a Thai standard) since they do not need to market Thais around here.

I imagine life in Chicago, New York, L.A, San Francisco or even in Thailand. It'd be nice to eat foods just like home everyday without making it myself!

It wasn't a musical trip GG because........

My boyfriend is betting on basketball so he was following basketball games on the radio all the way there.

...and when the game was over, the highway we were supposed to take was under construction, so we had to take a detour, which we got lost.

Then we were pissed.

Then no music until arriving Chicago. But on the way back, I was listening to old Aerosmith record.

Pond: of course. why else would I ask?

I think what a person listens to in his/her car is a very interesting stuff...

When I go on a road trip, I prepare at least ONE CD... usually Pink Floyd.

But sometimes I would try something totally new, like country music or pop singers like Avril Lavigne or something like that.

It adds much more color and music to otherwise dull drive.

Last time I went to KonKaen, I was listening to a compilation of country songs and Michael Learns to Rock.

I was feeling sort of 'romantic' the whole trip...

So, do I want to know? Sure~~~ but only if you want to tell, that is...

I have been to Chicago many times. Always interesting to visit -- the museums, McCoemick Place (for exhibitions), The Loop and Chicago Mercantile Exchange, notable landmarks like Sears Tower and John Hancock Building that are worth visiting, Northshore Drive, and of course, a good dinner at one of he better Chinese restaurants on Cermak Avenue.

We used to drive there every month or during long weekends from where we used to live further north, staying Friday and Saturday nights and returning on Sunday. As I said, A good place to visit but not my kind of city to stay.

Chicago very windy in winter time. I think they have a lot of Polish hotdogs and many beautiful boats.
