My Expectation(s) of Thailand

........is none.

I'm aware; an individual without an expectation appears to be a hopeless person. It appears to many not having any expectation shows lacks of hopes and dreams. It shows a sense of surrender. It makes me sound like I'm giving up on Thailand.

I disagree.

Thailand, just like any other countries, has bads and goods; ups and downs. New Year is just another day. The world is still spinning. We continue to do our things. Thailand remains a country; not hell nor heaven. Many love Thailand, many hate Thailand. Many believe Thailand is an exotic location while other says Thailand is a high crime area.

The bottom line is: who cares?

I can names many things that make me frustrated about Thailand and can make a long list of what can be changed in order to make Thailand a better place. But again, why look into what I don't like about it.

Saying I dislike this and hate that aren't going change a thing. Why not concentrate on what I like about it. At least, it is healthy to stick with positive things. I cherish what Thailand has as a country and the country that I grew up on; many little things--bad or good--count and these little things are perfect components of making me who I am today.

So It's a New Year. It's just another day. Let's make a wish and take actions; instead of making unnecessary expectations.

Guys...I'm so sorry for abandoning comments on my very own blog. Somehow I managed to forget about what I've written.

P'Veena: I'm not forgetting (hope you know what I referring to). Please don't give up on me just yet

Pond, your blog makes me think. I haven't told you: Sawasdee Pi Mai ja. Kor hai Pond suay and sukkaparb d - me satang yer yer na.

You know? now that things have not been so good in Thailand, we have Think Positive campaign by a fashion brand presented by former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova Srichaphan.

yes, think positive will make your life more content. I'm so sure of this...

pond: hey hey... lowering the bar?

i'll tell you what you can expect from thailand and acutally get it.

1. expect 'heavenly' food, that are 'earthly' cheap. i know many places where you can achieve this expectation.

2. expect it to be hot. as opposed to the cold that freezes your bone marrow. and even if it's cold, it's OK, coz it's Thailand!

3. expect traffic. the only time to be quiet, away from TV and internet. it's time to appreciate some quality music. get a portable MP3 unit or if you have a car, a decent sound system.

4. expect the worst, and prepare for it. if you KNOW shit will fall, you are better off, as opposed to if you DIDN'T KNOW.

well, i can only say so much in one day, so this is all.

"Learning to compromise on the locality" and "Appreciate the values & living that the locals do" should be two magic sentences, to maintain your healthy attitude...anywhere.

well....thanks guys. and PJ: I agree. Even this mentality to try to stay positive myself, I often find myself seeing all the bads and complaining. It's something I'm working on to stay on a brighter side.

Hi Pond,

I find that if you stay in any country for long enough you will have time to find fault with it. When I lived permanently in England I was irritated by the bad public transport, high cost of everything and generally poor service. Now I am home, for a short visit, I feel so happy to be back.

It is so easy to lose sight of the things that make a country nice as we get caught up in irritations and frustrations about the things that are not so good. So I agree wholeheartedly with your suggestion - concentrate on the good things.

And maybe if there are bad things - high crime or bad traffic, or whatever - try to improve them.
