CHAVALIT SELLING HIS CONDO TO FUND TRIPS, A headline in today’s Bangkok Post.

This report says Puea Thai Party chairman, Chavalit Yongchaiyudh will sell his 15-million baht riverside condominium unit at the River Line Place condominium on Phibun Songkram Rd. in Nonthaburi to finance a series of trips in the region, according to a source close to him. Chavalit has to delay his plan to make the trips to Burma, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and China because there is no money to fund them. They are costly and Gen. Chavalit  has to raise fund to pay all the expense himself, the source also said.

“I confirm that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra did not give one baht to Gen. Chavalit.  He spent his own money and did not make any financial agreement with Mr. Thaksin”, said the source.

The question that no one is asking is: "Who is he going to sell it to and for how much?"

What's B15,000,000 when B76,000,000,000 or US$2,300,000,000 is up for grabs next month?

FYI, when chavalit was PM he sent someone to Vancouver to offer Rakesh sanctuary in a military reservation and 'soft' charges for B2,000,000,000. The problem was that he diddn't last as PM long enough to 'close the deal'.

I know, because I was there.

Stal,
A strategy that is too ridiculous.
General Chaovalit already lost his reasoning power.

stal,

Not probably, it's surely and a gambit. Peacefulness is a data bank and massein's three letters LOL says a lot. It can be 'laugh out loud','liar of lies', 'lying out loud','live on lies','loss of life' (insurance) and 'limited operational life' (military). Pick the one you like.

Thanks peacefulness and massein.

Yabua, it might be Top Joke of the Day for everyone.

K. Krajog

Probably a ploy to communicate he’s just a poor old pensioned soldier trying to do good. But how could he have set up his own political party on a retired General’s salary? We all know in Thai politics you need a certain hefty amount to feed the family (and the fish) so to speak. Besides, you can never trace foreign bank accounts which are opened up courtesy of arms dealers for certain services rendered while in office—and this is normal practice done all around the third world--or even the first world, not to say I condone it.

Selling an asset doesn’t mean one is hard up. I might sell a plot and have millions of Baht worth of other assets still under my belt. So I don’t see it as worthwhile to prove the matter. We’ll never know. Money may have been transferred abroad etc. You have to look at the history of the man, if you really wanted to get to the bottom of all this. BTW, thanks a lot to the“ source” for giving a really convincing assertion.

Nonsense.

And thanks to peacefulness NACC assets data in C5, it becomes absolute ridiculous nonsense.

The man is a clown.

anthonyford c4,

Old Thai generals have no need to make any invstment. If they are powerful as a c-in-c or really a big soldier. They got everything without any cost. He just say to someone who did business with the military, for example, "I went to a dinner party, hosted by a businessman friend of mine last night. He opened a bottle of rare Romanee Conti. I normally drink Petrus but the taste of Romanee Conti was so heavenly smooth. not too fruity. I love it."

By the next day, a pack of four Ramanee Conti would arrived at the general's house. Free of charge. These big brass old or current ones live a very comfortable life. They don't need to buy what they want. Cars, golf clubs, all kinds of fancy drinks, from Scotches to wines and French champaigne and the likes, fridges, rice or even fish souces or a condo unit are very easy to get without paying for them.

Hard to believe, right? Believe it!

The Truth is Freedom

It is a calculated investment. The investor in this case: Mr Chavalit Yongchaiyudh will expect a return on investment (ROI). How that ROI will present itself will be the interesting part.

Did the party not finance his trip, even though he will make these trips in the capacity of the defacto party chair? (Otherwise who would give a shit to the trips?)

But it may be true that the Genearl is not so rich in cash nowadays.

This IS hard to believe. Not just because it's Chavalit or it has something to do with Thaksin, I would find it hard to believe that any Thai politicians (or American ones for that matter) would pay for their own trips. Not when they can suck the funds up from the taxpayers.
