Po-pos gone wild

In that other English-language newspaper, it is reported that the Royal Thai Police Crime Suppression Division has turned to to put pink Hello Kitty armbands on cops as a new disciplinary measures for those who break the rules. Because the warnings no longer work, said the chief. So we're going to shame them with the pink Hello Kitty armband. What. The. Hell??? I mean, LAPD is no shining example but I don't think they'd go slapping Care Bear armbands on unruly officers. But then again, judges in the U.S. have turned their attention to using shame a bit more these days as well. I have read about many juvinile delinquents who got punished to stand on street corners with signs around their necks announcing their crimes. This is an attempt to really shame them into going straight. An Ohio judge recently used the shame tactics on 3 guys busted soliciting for sex. In exchange for 30-day jail term, for those 30 days, he had them wear bright yellow chicken suits down at the courthouse with the sign saying "No Chicken Ranch in Painesville", referring to the Chicken Ranch Brothel in the movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". Will that work? Who knows. But that is more embarassing than a Hello Kitty armband I'm pretty damn sure. Hello Kitty armband? Pssshh. Give me a frickin' break. Oh, and I must mention that a few headlines above this news article was a report of fatality from the South. So, while the south is burning, the police has time to come up with this cute way of embarassing themselves. I'm sure this is going to land in my AP Weird News RSS feed tomorrow... ETA: Since folks brought it up, let me add this link to a Washington Post article on the "creative punishment" being handed out in the US.

While you say "many: judges, I've actually only read about one US judge who does that?
