I came across cheerful paintings in the 'monument bookshop' in Vientiane, PDR Laos. The colours are so striking with fresh yellow, orange, pink and red. I like the colours so I would like to share these paintings with you.
The artist, Stef creates his work under the theme "Happy Painting", it could also be called "Jollity in Painting". In fact, it reflects "La Joie de vivre": the joy of living. Well, I wish I could read French to understand the term better. The best I could do is to search for its meaning from google.
The work of this Candadian artist in his forty reflects optimism and childlike eyes through humour realism. He paints the subjects of daily life such as the Lao riding a bicycle facing a smiley monk. Bicycles appears the main subject in his many paintings, however I see too many motorcycles in this capital. Fortunately, monks and temples are still prevalent. Cheers to Stef's sense for simplified drawing and clear construction which is reminiscent of the comic strip style. His work brings vitality, and joy to life, to light and to "la joie de vivre." |
