When the rescuer found her, she was still having her dimmed flashlight on and was reading one of her textbooks.  Reportedly, in order to overcome her fears, the cold temperature and the long wait, she spent a lot of those more than 30 hours reading her book to keep herself from falling to sleep!

Flash light.. one of the useful thing people should have off hand.

This story reminds me an old song..
ขอเพียงไฟส่องทาง..สว่างวามในความมืดหม่น.. All i need is just light..
shinning slightly bright while all around is just dark..

Incidentally, why does no one ever mention mundane details such as excretion.

It's rather similar to being a passenger on a long haul flight with a fat passenger either side of you.
I just switch off and go into a sort of trance.

Piset LOL. Now I understand your logic.

Lalida - I have been involved in some crises and badly injured, but I was unconscious most of the time (probably still am) What would I do in that poor ladies situation...who knows?
I agree we have no concept of what it really feels like.....so much suffering......so much pain in the world.

Hi Catch and Lalida:

That's culture--reading to prevent from falling asleep. In Thailand, for some when they had a hard time falling asleep, they just opened a book, and sleep came almost instantly.

No Catch, I count the words, it's shorter :A4. She was lucky to have a torch to take smoe fear away.

Just imagine if it was you, what would you do? I always think, we can't really feel what they feel by reading all these stories about Burma, china quakes and so on, what if we're the one that got trapped in these places...
