Genuine software

Since there was an annoucement to check offices' computers, everyone in my office had to install Windows7 (because we are buying its license). However, we don't have microsoft office yet. Maybe it's too much to buy both OS and program. Therefore, we installed Openoffice instead (for now).

The problem about openoffice is openning .docx file (from word2007), but I found a way from :  http://www.ghacks.net/2007/12/10/ways-to-open-office-docx-documents/

I think it can solve this problem, although I havn't tried it yet (because I haven't had an opportunity to work with .docx file since I installed it).

And the program for checking email I'm using is Thunderbird from mozilla.
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Same as Microsolf Outlook, but you have to set SMTP and outgoing server to suit your email addresses (I use this program check my office email and Gmail, actually you can set as many mailboxes as you want).

But for the Kompozer:http://www.kompozer.net/, I found a threat that I couldn't insert CSS tags without a link file. When I tried to type <ull> and <il> on the HTML interface, they were gone after I looked on the design page.  Even though the program looks cool, Dreamweaver's still better for generate codes. Anyway, it's okay for a person who want to learn about creating a homepage. It's easy to use and its functions are very helpful.  (So what I want to say is it's not appropriate for creating a complicated website.)

Anyway there are many interesting program from Mozila: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/#applications, so if anybody find a good one, please let me know. :D

I'm surprised that you contend that the counterfeit software (or other goods) comes from the U. S. This would be contrary to what the rest of the world believes. The U. S. doesn't even manufacture it's own legitimate goods anymore - almost everything is sent "off shore." Most computers in the U. S. come pre-loaded with Microsoft so there is litle need to buy counterfeit MS here.

As far as why don't U. S. traders and businessmenn buy from Thailand, Malaysia, etc.? (C 4). Look at what happened to Pizza Hut in Thailand. They were basically ripped off of nearly their entire investment by their Thai partners, which by law (and in China) has to constitute 51% of the ownership. Granted, Chinese people rip off their investors too, (look at Volkswagon, Dannon, etc.), but they have a billion person market that these people think they will be able to exploit.

To be fair, why don't you consider why Thai people can come to the U. S., buy businesses, houses, any other property as wll as become legal residents or citizens without having to find native partners (who are too often dishonest) and give them 51% ownership? Why does Thailand import just about everything they want to the U. S. at virtually zero duties but everything the U. S. send to Thailand is doubled in price. I know, now is the time for the whining to begin, "Oh, we're only a third world country, we're not rich like the U. S." etc, etc.

Where is your sympathy for all fo the U. S. workers who are out of work because the jobs have been sent overseas. It's not all about Thailand, you know.

i haven't seen these insults, the only grievance the west in general would have against china is their refuse to let the Yung to float on a free market. In retrospect perhaps , maybe the USA should adopt their currency policy.
As for as US investment is China instead of Thailand or other countries you mention, Its a matter of consistent, trade policy that China offers, Thailand changes the rules often. China is consistent and does not vacillate.
Further we have had a President who has gone around the world in the last few month excepting the blame for all of the world problems, What more do you want?

Massein (c3),

Sorry mate. I did not mean to to that but it flowed naturally.

I am really dissapointed at the ineptitude of the current and recent US Administration in managing the US economy, the results of which have affected not only Americans but the rest of the world.

I cannot accept the way the US Government is always blaming others for their own failures. If they don't like the Chinese, for example, just don't buy from Chinese suppliers and stop American companies from investing in China. Why continue to hurl abuse and harass them at every turn? Such hypocrites! Do you know how many countries peg (officially and not officially) their currencies to the US dollar today?

Most of the products exported from China to America actually comes from US- and other foreign-invested companies who set up factories in that country. Why don't American traders and business people buy from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Banglaseh, India, Turkey, Agfhanistan, Iraq, Poland, Czekoslovakia, etc, instead and invest in thosse countries?

How could the American people condone such horrible things to happen?

Most people nowadays do not go out to buy softwares anymore (for private home use, anyway). They do not even go to buy at Pantip Plaza, etc.

One can just go online and download the latest edition of any software you might need from thousands of "warez" web sites. They all come with serials, cracks or fixes.

No wonder many software publishers are going to Web 2.0 where they do not "sell" software but instead "rent" software by subscription. These software do not reside in your PC. Instead, they are accessed through the Internet once you log in.

As time goes by, we will see more and more of this happening and less and less "stand alone" software in the market. There is just too much software pirating going on worldwide, and people in the US is one of the worst violators. Many of the warez web sites originates form the US, but are hosted by servers in Russia and other offshore locations.

But of course, the US government does not see it that way. They always point their fingers at others, like Thailand, Malaysia, China and others. It's always easier to blame others for your own faults, like blaming China and the Renminbi for the economic woes affecting the US and others.

Encourage your people to save instead of spending beyond their means, cut back on the uncontrolled use of credit, don't lend money to people who cannot afford to pay back, live within your means, stop printing money and issuing credit out of thin air, earn more than what you spend, raise interest and lower taxes, make the US dollar truly "strong" instead of like Mickey Mouse money.

There is no rocket science to learn, just simple common sense. Why is it that the US leadership refuse to follow them? Amazing USA. Even more than amazing Thailand.
