The Eastern way of knowing Yourself You are on your usual path. The world around you is somewhat noisy so you cannot distinguish between that noise and what your Mind tells you. You continue on your path. Suddenly you notice traces. You haven't seen them before. You try to find out where they lead. You catch a glimpse of a fleeing animal. so that's where the traces came from. The animal is in your hands now. It behaves like an uncontrollable force though. It's wild and untamed. By steadfast discipline you have, almost, tamed the beast. Heading back for home, riding on what is now an Ox. You realize the Ox in fact is your own deep Self. Nothing to see or hear. Picture is empty. You experience the unity of and nothingness of being. The scenery of the world returns, now in simplicity and you are a part of it. there is no Ox. The Self, having understood Selflessness, stretches out to other selves. This was an old Chinese story. Although 1000 years old it's well up to date. Sorry, there were no pictures. What do you think it would be like, if you put it the Western way (?). |
