Google is having to deal with the fact that not all of there smart employees are happy in the great workplace they have , and I would once have liked to be there, focus on things is a little different these days. It seems as any company that has become as successful as Google is will generate a place where some employees are not really happy. Maybe they get a little bored, lets face it the incremental improvements that can now be done to the search engine must be fairly limited so that no one breaks it, a victim of its own success. So apparently recently a few Google people have left and it seems some at least have headed out to create a next big thing, rekindle the excitement that the Google of early days would have had. One recently headed of to Facebook and a few others apparently started Twitter. Now this creates a problem, if one of there ex-employees should create something that becomes very successful, do they buy it or do they just accept that they had a good idea and let it run. Buying back the idea is risky as some in the business may think that the best way then to make money is to leave and when you do get a bit successful then just wait for the approach from the former employer. Google will have a challenge, that even at its lofty heights it may not be able to stop. IT is unlike many other businesses. The sole existence is related to the people you have working for you. If they are very good then you may well end up with a very good product. If your people are average, they might create a very great, but more than likely the business will never quite seem to get there. Google problem is that its success comes from having the very best IT people, but when enough have had enough, it's just possible that one might just out google Google by creating the next great thing on the net. IT is a virtual world in a lot of respects and that makes it impossible to stop it constantly being reshaped. The internet is a very big case of this. What should they do, they are going to have to nurture both approaches, they need to be able find ways to capture those things that have left and make sure they are fully loyal to existing staff See ya round Falang IT |
