Four Days Sum Up

I am home the whole day. In fact I stay inside to avoid the strong sun which often does some harm to my health more than nourishing me with vitamin D.

Last week I had a guest from Europe. We met in June and he was here on business.

His experience with Bangkok 12 years ago changed his imagination completely. Showing him shops in Siam Paragon, Siam Square and Central World, treating him nice food by the river at sunset in a simple decoration but modern style and good service riverside restaurant, all places impressed him.

Viewing the outer ring bridge in the night always brings the pride to my close friend and I who were born and raised up in Phrapradaeng. We had been waiting for a shortcut to Bangkok and the other side of Samutprakarn for ages.. So since the bridge construction was finished, she and I have been using it daily for free of charge. Over there any viewpoints down the river are beautiful.. especially at dawn and dusk.

Another day, going out in the hot sun to the Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha Temple and Wat Po. He was so happy. But I was very tired. In fact I should realize that I am approaching the end of my teenage years..

We started by having lunch at Foodland soi 5 Sukhumvit at the counter of Took Lae Dee in a crowded atmosphere but the food  was fantastic even though you are new to all kinds of Thai food. My order was out of the menu since I knew the original restaurant pretty well from my years working at an advertising agency in Ploenchit Arcade, I realized that the chef here made the best Khao Nua Pad Prik ( rice topped with fried beef with chilli, spring onion and onion, with a sunny egg on the side) ..ooh.. so wonderful..( No wonder that I broke off my vegetarian diet for a short period of time). Why I brought him there? Because it is 24 hour restaurant. Without me as a guide, it is easy to walk there by himself any time since his hotel was quite close.

At the Grand Palace, he pointed at the two chinese lions guarding the palace door and asked for the photography. He said , " I like the lions there, I am a lion. What are you?"

Huh.. Lion and Lioness, that's why we get along very quickly..

After Wat Po, we had some drink at the Deck ..The Temple of Dawn was right opposite. My favourite drink is Nam Manow ( my formula, no sugar, no soda, but honey instead.) So he began to follow my advice. And he ordered  double every cafe we stopped.

But well, he would never get the same satisfaction unless I did it myself...ee ee.

Instead of using a driver, I planned to take taxi, took-took, ride the boat and connect with BTS.
I completed my plan. But as soon as we separated at Siam Station, it rained.

The strong sun and later the rain caused my body weakness. But the Lioness did not give up. The next two days we both had factory tour. One in Bangkok and the other in Chainart! Oh dear,  imagine walking in the production line for 2 days, and the meeting adjourned at 7 pm. My brain sore, my beautiful legs hurt, my body exhaust, my creativity loss... Dinner by the river Chao Phya ended at 8:30 pm. I came home nearly 11 pm..: not enough rest.

The fifth day of his visit, I stayed home. He remained in his hotel. We both were sick lion and lioness. Healing ourselves in our own caves.

My doctor gave me 2 days absence letter in case I need it. But I remain home till now.

I tell myself, I will never over estimate my energy again.

My guest at Viharn Yod in the Grand Palace. The gates are the most beautiful mother-of-pearl in lay work in Thailand.

Believe me, this is the factory in Chainart.

Wat Ta-soong interior decoration, Uthaithani, across the river.

cool corner inside a new Temple Hall

Fried chicken with cashew nut and dried chilli, Chainart style.

A new Prayer's hall.

One of the most stunning mural paintings in Wat Prakaew.

Kiewwan sea food in coconut, spicy and soft..with nice fragrance of the ingredient mix...

First I  wondered what was hidden under the fried rice noodle..? Don't guess. You will never know what under the crispy looking sen mee until you try it.

It was quite late when I was able to shoot this newly served dish of pig's leg !!
Dedicated to Yabua who might enjoy the German style than the Thai.

But I agree with you. Living in the US is not easy. My lunch today cost 5.71 usd. The quality by quantity not equal to MBK khaokamuh.

I am glad you prefer Thai pigs leg.
The best is at MBK. Kha Mu Trock Soong.
And along a stree of Soi 8 Sukhumwit.

The Thai Trade man in LA told me that he believed Thai food here tasted better than most restaurants in Bangkok for some specific reasons.
I will try and tell you my idea soon.

As I read your comment, Stal, I incidentally heard the siren .. It is now Sunday night 10:25 pm.
The hotel I stay is in the heart of Beverly Center. Tomorrow morning I will explore the town and do my survey.
So far, the procedure at the airport went very speedy despite the crowded visitors.
A young man drove me to the hotel and gave me a warm welcome by briefing on a lot of business scenario.
The movie makers from Thailand are now in town for American Film Fair. Entrance fee cost 300 usd/person..

DS: when you are in LA, can you please form some impressions about safety for women there, especially at night as my daughter is thinking of visiting there next summer. I myself lived in LA for 2 years but that was a long time ago and it was pretty dangerous then as I lived downtown, and you can hear sirens regularly at night.

But it was a fun city for young people though, and superb weather. Pity then that there was no public transport to speak of then and the buses came once every 30 minutes or so. I bought a VW beetle and was great for freeway driving.

Thanks.

DS c.47: the place I suggested to Pan has good kebabs, but I don't eat kebabs rolled and spitted around the fire as sold in kebab joints in Europe anymore on advice from my daughter (biochemistry grad) who says they use the worst meat, including unwanted entrails, and fragrant it. But the real slice meat kebabs are delicious, with all that fat virtually gone and you eat it with the sauce.

Those sidewalk kebabs are strictly for young, hungry, student types, looking for a quick and filling meal, and whose immunity is tops. I used to eat them in my student days, but now graduated to Mcdonalds !

With one exception, the Turkish restaurants in Berlin serve good quality flame-spitted kebabs, as the Turks there seem to be pretty discriminating with their kebabs.

K. Dryshrimp C17

The authentic Sichuan Kung Pao does not call for vegetables. However, some irrecognizably modified versions have all kinds of vegetables in the dish such as carrots, water chestnuts, celery, zucchini, and even broccoli! In many dishes which do not require vegetables (chicken in wine or coq au vin, for example), vegetables normally give out their juices which serve to meld together many conflicting flavors, thereby making any given dish more flavorful. By the way, I could not help notice that there is chicken in the dish in the photo. Perhaps, you are a non-vegan.

Lioness, lions are my best friends. My father and brother are both lions, the quiet kinds though. I'm a Saggit, while you like the glory of the sun (well, symbolically), I like the fire of ideas.

Wonder if your last day out with your inspiring friend from Europe coincided with the last week of October. I had my own jinxed outing week this other side of the world.

A friend from Canada came for a conference, we took him out for on Monday night, there was a hurricane blowing off season on the coast of Mexico, so the weather has been rather odd. A few hot days and sudden cold nights with off season rain. That particular night was a bit too cold for what I was wearing. I came home chilled, mixed with a hangover from only ONE Magarita I had (developing allergies to alcohol at this age) coupled with a woman's down day, I ended up couped up in bed for the next day to avoid seriously catching a cold which one doesn't want at all during these times. Lucky for me, fever broke that night, next day I could go to work. Come Friday, went out to have a last dinner with said friend and it rained and rained and rained the whole night. I was trying to win over the traffic, the rain, etc. We never made it to my intended destination, gave up and nursed a drink each and went our different ways. That night I must say was one of my most jinxed outing nights in my life.

Right, Alien. You are from a place with 4 seasons a year. We stay in the country with 3 seasons. Summer, rainy season and winter. I used to wear light sweater and turtle neck to my primary school in Bangkok. And whenever we went to Chiangmai, we saw the fog every where. Now the old climate became unknown or miracle to young people.
So we have-hot+hotter+hottest seasons all year round. When the cool wind comes, we are in the good mood. I am wearing a cardigan to work today.
It was kept for more than a year in the closet!!
I am able to walk around the market near my office with the cardigan on.

stalingrad-MBK DO have them but they are quite expensive and are located at the secretive shops on the 3rd floor! You have to walk past the white t-shirt shops, past the wedding gowns.....and all the way in....tons of European style sweaters! I bought mine at Platinum.....made from HK/Korea and the wholesale price is less than 200bht each, but they are more like hip hop style.....but warm enough.

The term guest used sounds better than a customer or a client, HJ.
Chainart is a small province. I went to the bookshop there to find story about the province, It turned out that even in the urban itself, there is only one book about Chainart..
The fish there is fantastic. The unique pomelo- Khao tangkwa (White cucumber) tastes so refreshing.
When the chainart people need life in the limelight, they just drive to Nakornsawan.
