NOT CLEAR

The Nation today ran an article which quotes the Fugitive as writing on his Twitter page: ""I am prohibited not only from stepping on my motherland ................." (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/30116682/Thaksin-complains-he-could-not-fly-over-Thailand).Is this correct?  Could he have said it? Wasn't it he who skipped the bail the Court trustfully awarded him....

When working away from home a lot, AIS 1-2-Call gave me a promotion for cheap long-duration calls. Last week they sent a text asking me if I wished to continue.  I didn't, so I did not answer. So on the 1st of the month, they took money anyway. I rang and asked them to return my money as I didn't want the promotion.  They said that was not possible.  I asked them why they texted me asking if....

WEEKEND POLLUTION

Today, the first day of a new month, brought me a couple of pieces of news to brighten my mood.  I thought I should share them with you all.  They concern POLLUTION, the first of the mind, the second of the environment. 1.  Well, you all know this guy, he's the one who was Prime Minister before the baht collapsed in the 90s (though he told some of his friends first so they could move their money....

GIVING MONEY AWAY?

What was the headline earlier this week?  The banks make 20bn profit in the last quarter? I'm not surprised. And I wonder how much is 'miscellaneous revenue', as I think they call it.  I had seen this on the TOT bills when the satang amount is not a multiple of 25 but never thought about it. A few days ago, I got "The Look" ....

STUPID CENSORS

This morning while the TV was showing cartoons and I was reading the news, a shriek of laughter from my family filled the room. Surprised by such an outburst during kids programmes, I wondered what was the cause. One of the cartoon characters was wearing a bikini, and the bikini HAD BEEN CENSORED!  Smudged out!  Blurred! How pathetic. That equates hand-drawn bikinis with guns and cigarett....

                                           - The operator of a waxworks museum in Pattaya has been forced to cover up a giant billboard of Adolf Hitler giving a Nazi salute after complaints from the Israeli and German ambassadors that it was "offensive" and "utterly tasteless" -   The billboard - along with three others featuring famous dead people - is prominently loc....

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) plans to build two nuclear power plants, beginning in 2020 and 2021, Egat deputy governor and spokesman Wirat Kanchanaphaibul said on Friday. The construction and operation of a nuclear power station requires accuracy, attention to detail, constant power supply, reliable staff and responsible behavior, not to mention regul....

ASKING QUESTIONS

This article appeared in the BP today.  It is one of the best and most insightful pieces I have read in years.  I am compelled to reproduce it here, with thanks to Khun Voranai, for two reasons: a)  It should be mandatory reading for all Thai people involved with education b)  It should be mandatory reading for any farang who plans to stay in Thailand for any reason other than a holiday. There are....

TIME TO DIE...?
Posted by panya , Reader : 1040 , 11:41:00

There's a lot of it about at the moment.  GG's weapons and the news rekicked my thinking. In July, an 85 yr old renowned British conductor who was almost blind and deaf, chose to die with his terminally ill 74 yr old wife.  After 54 happy years together, rather than continue to struggle with serious health problems, they travelled to Switzerland where they were 'assisted' in dying together. I....
