Skinny means beautiful?

Dominating advertising pages of newspapers are weight-reducing chains!!

Do women have to be so slim to be attractive? I’ve read how European countries - Spain and Italy in particular - have started banning on super-skinny models as they inspire women to outdo themselves regarding weight reduction.

In Spain who pioneers the skinny model ban, boutiques are also encouraged to display the normal sizes on their mannequins. They know there are the cases of people dying of Anorexia and Bulimia. Worse, some underweight models believe they are overweight. There are sad stories of models dying.

There are times when women have illusions after absorbing images of super-skinny models and imagine their bodies in comparison of those models. It sounds like a stupid thing but it did happen. Many women share a silly idea that beautiful always mean you have to be skinny.

When you look at Thailand, it is a pity that most Thai women are very petite and most of them have perfect shape. But those weight reduction chains have kept persuading many women that they can be even slimmer. (By saying this, I certainly respect those who suffer obesity to go and get rid of their fat for health benefit.) ^-^

It’s crazy that women become victims of the social-constructed belief and it’s even sad to see more and more women spending their money to shed some kilos instead of allocating their time on exercises – something that costs them less and really benefits them.

You may disagree but my belief is that the beauty of women is a combination of many factors and not necessary on the weight. I’ve seen a lot of attractive chubby women.

Gatito, it's okay. I know you have no intention. and actually it's kind of cute name. I may use that name... kind of like it.
Ian, thanks as always for your contribution

Azunaree, I am sorry. When I said, azul, I don't mean to convey the term beast or giant. I think azul in Spanish means 'blue'. Yes, Ian, I also want to say azure. I will check later the website you suggested, thank much much! :0

Gatito, are you getting confused with Azure, which is a sea blue colour?
The rounded classical nudes are called "Junoesque" after Juno the mother of the Gods or Rubenesque after Rubens who painted in this style.
If you want a laugh read this:-

There is a movement for fatties, it is called "Big is beautiful" and they refer to themselves as BBWs (Big Beautiful Women)

Gatito, are you Thai? I like Azulnaree. "Azul" in Thai means beast or giant. But well I'm only size 8 Uk and size 4 US so I prefer your beautiful translation "girl from the ocean" ^ --^
Yo're right about self-confidence. That's exactly my point. Some gals are so skinny but they lack confidence and go to slimming chain. That's why some models suffer from dieting and related diseases. I agree with you that an average sized woman signals she takes good care of her health. As for your questions about the changing trend, I think the media have played a major role in shaping it ie. movies, glossy magazines, catwalks, TV commercials (those pick on chubby gals or boys)... Remember during the ancient time, women in painting ie Monalisa were rather rounded figure. That's why I heard in Spain they are quite strict with the adverts that show very skinny models. They also discourage the programs on TV and radio that may suggest people that skinny is the only way to beauty. Sorry, I haven't done a further research but hope my answer has motivated someone to share more ideas.

Ggrass, thank for the thumb up. I think u know her name is Lee Pani or E Pani. I used to see her pic in that white t-shirt pose. And with the letter “k” on it, it’s not hard to guess.
And Azunaree, thank for appreciating your new name. I also suggest “Azul”, which I think mean “blue”, right? Like blue ocean. Let say, Azulnaree, ‘girl from the ocean’.
Yes, it’s good to be self-confident sometime. Whether you’re chubby or skinny, it’s not a crime! What I’m interested is since when slim or skinny becomes the synonym of healthy and beauty and is there any society regarding chubby as an ideal beauty. Skinny may implies starvation as Porndering mentioned, but can it suggest that woman’s ability to control herself, her diet, her victory over the excess or culinary temptation, something the other people in her society cannot do?

Pondering: you are smarty pant.

Gatito: You are smart too (Ggrss agrees). And yes! the new name you give me sounds cool Azunaree. I'll keep that name when chat with you. You're right that I can't avoid being under the influence of someone else - more or less. But I will be careful not to let any influence ruin my life. It is good to have some influences but we have to learn how to keep control otherwise we can't be an individual.
thanks for comments everyone

Ggrass, I protested the way you graphically manipulated the belly of Miss Korean Playboy! I think she is very sexy with make-up and clothe on.
Azunaree, whether you're in Ancient Greek time or modern time, you cannot avoid being under the influence of someone else, who want to have a say on your body. And today the science has a big say on our body. Human body has been playground of dominant power and anti-dominance since old days. :0

First off most men, myself included have no idea about dress sizes, UK, EU or American. Saying you are a size 8, 10, 12 whatever tells me nothing.
I am still in the days when a woman was measured by height and bust, waist and hips, oh and cup size:-)
Tell me you are 5 ' 3 " and 36, 24, 35 with a B cup and I can instantly visualise you, tell me you are a dress 8 and you could be anything to me:-)
Purely personally, the most important thing about a woman's shape is that her belly does not get too big;-)

Oh...to answer your question: nope, skinny does not mean beautiful. Skinny = starvation.

But do you know for some men, they like to hang around a pole.

azuna: Halleluja to you! I didn't see your blog after I've already posted about something similar on August 9th.

I personally feel bad for younger girls who are constantly pressured directly and indirectly to stay thin. Thai society, espcially, is filled with sad people who don't know how to enjoy life. Growing up, I'd dealt with this in my own way--whinning about how I'd never be thin like any other girls. As time goes by, I grow smarter and see things brighter. The rest is just history where I've put it behind. HOWEVER, it is annoying from time to time when hearing something about what size women should be. It is very pitiful to me.

Thanks for sharing your thought ^ - ^ I think Ian has concluded it well in his comment. But yes, Khamala, I'd say many people do agree that skinny is part of beauty. But I'd say I think you are (now) pretty and I'm not sure if you are super-skinny.
I'm sized 8 (UK) and I have my sized 10 and 12 friends. They both look beautiful.
Jiwamol, I hope you can build some muscles. I'm sure it will look nice.
Any man wanna share comments? I really don't know why adverts on the weight reductions are mushrooming. Now they also target men with belly. I think men with big belly are not sexy but if the belly is grown from the body you love, i don't know <..> thanks again everyone

XXX

I'm a bit thin, may be the size many want to have. But I don't want to be this thin. But I've been this thin since I was young. (my dad and mom were very thin when they're much younger) I even can wear my jean I bought when I was in high school. Now, I determined to build up muscles in a bit to be not-so-thin.

Slim is better than fat! Skinny is not matter. But partaking in medical procedure or losing weight service center is quite negative. Exercise is better in idealistic way of being slim. In fact, people rarely have time to lollygag even their meals.
