My Life
Posted by Ian , Reader : 603 , 18:14:29

There are two things in my life I am not happy about, I smoke too much and I spend too much time on the computer.

The smoking I have managed to reduce, but that final step to zero I just cannot achieve.

And computing is partly to blame, when I write a blog or a comment, my nature is to seek a smoke. If I can cut down on blogging it will be easier to cut down on smoking.

At this time cutting down on blogging is becoming easier, this could well be my last blog.

This blog site is no longer a congenial place to be, it is full of fighting and stupidity and self pity.

My main interests are science, politics, religion and humour. Now politics dominates, but it is partisan politics and this I do not enjoy, in these blogs one has to be pro PPP or anti PPP, pro Thaksin/Samak or anti them. In just the same way one is expected to be Pro Lalida or Anti Lalida.

Perhaps I am getting soft in my old age, several bloggers have suggested this. But I find it hard to accept these rigid attitudes, I find it difficult to see life and people in such black and white terms. All of those I have named in my previous paragraph have good and bad sides to their character, as have I. Yet recently I have been attacked or criticised by other bloggers, even lost friends who no longer comment to me, simply because I won't take sides, so each side sees me as supporting the other side.

Reading back over the last few paragraphs it seems that I am also indulging in self pity, but that is not the case I am simply reaching my limits with these blogs. Furthermore I think I can detect a reason.

A year ago these blogs were mainly Farang written with a few Asian bloggers, now it is reversed. Apart from random appearances of PJ, R&W, Catch and Felix, I believe that I am now the only regular Farang blogger. This blog is now a battleground of Chinese, Japanese, Thais and a few hybrids. It seems Asians don't debate, Asians fight.

So I am going to gradually fade away, the Nation weblog is now a different place from when I joined. ALL THINGS CHANGE.

To Ian ,

You said frozen money was Thaksin's dominant case so as to he had to go London, England. I thought he had more cases apart from the frozen money .
No matter how he had to go to London , Engliand , I still blessed him to be happy.
Bye.

Pasa, I'm trying hard, the price here in England is an incentive. But the speed of my connection is so slow here I get bored and smoke more:-(
So they sort of balance out.
To stop smoking they advise you to stop normal activities in which you are accustomed to smoking, so perhaps I need to take a break from the internet.

Ian said "It is my personal experience that Asians are much more polite than Westerners until they get annoyed. Once annoyed they become far more abusive than a westerner in a similar situation" as well as abusive I would add...irrational, wild, scarey, dangerous. This is also my experience after 30 years with a Thai partner and her friends. This subject could be worth a bog.

You guys spill your guts out to a faked entity who's been directing you to certain topics. But you guys just love to spill your guts out to such a fake and offend others with your so-called intellect.

That's the trouble with some of you Brits. You think others understand you by talking with 'manner' and nuance. All that amount to is to build some half-ass illiterate with some street smartness into a monster.

You like street-smartness? First learn the language before you think you know them. In the mean time, don't disburse your empathy with ignorance!

Marvellous for relieving tensions. The greatest thrill is to collide with one of these tinned goods pyramids they love to build in the centres of aisles, naturally you blame a faulty wheel:-)

Yuri - But it's not their fault because the system teaches them not to think from an early age and you certainly know that all learning in Thailand is rote.

Unfortunately, this not thinking doesn't end in the classroom, it spills into daily life and on the roads is a classical example of not thinking.

Good Lord, they don't even think when they push a trolley around the supermarket and give you that 'blank glazed' look as they crash into you....the same blank glazed look as on the road.

I have as yet not had a decent discussion/debate with an Asian !
They don't discuss, they make statements, take sides and as you say, get angry. There doesn't appear to be much of a thinking process going on. Just repetition of something they have read, been told or seen on TV.
The classic phrase - "As seen on TV"

Seven, we can see all nationalities as human beings but we should accept that even in this day and age, people from different cultures may behave and think a little differently. It's these "culture clashes" that can cause problems if we try to pretend the don't exist and therefore not learn about other cultures.

Religion, the first time you called me senile I thought you were insulting me, now I suspect you do not know the correct meaning:-)

Seven, I also see all races and nationalities as human beings, but just as individuals have different characteritics and personalities so do races.
It is my personal experience that Asians are much more polite than Westerners until they get annoyed. Once annoyed they become far more abusive than a westerner in a similar situation. This seems to be the current situation in these blogs.
I think that many regular farang bloggers are keeping quiet simply because of the ferocity of the fighting, we prefer a rapier thrust and parry rather than the wild swings of a broadsword.
I am not gone, I am simply keeping away from all these swinging swords and axes, I may at times make a quick rapier thrust:-)

My response to the above remark is this.

I will buy full page ad on The Nation, in color, to reach out to the Farang community in Thailand and elsewhere in the world, to come and adorn and dignify The Nation Weblog with their gracious presence, since it has been reduced to a clutter of 'Chinese, Japanese, Thais, and a few hybrids'.

So now I just simply ignore him, don't even read his blogs.
You could have done the same with your enemies but choose to escalate the fight. I cannot accept this it is not my nature. I sympathise with the mass attack on you, but equally feel you have brought it upon yourself.
