Thaksin's old military class-mates plan a "Dubai Mission."

If everything goes as planned, a delegation of just-retired genenerals should arrive in Dubai on Oct 21 to meet Thaksin Shinawatr: The mission? Boost the ranks of Pheau Thai Party in preparation for the upcoming election.

The group held a gathering Saturday evening to discuss their "political strategy" to help get Thaksin back to power.

The leader of the group is Air Chief Marshal Sumet Pohmani, who retired on Sept 30, this year, having openly identified himself with Thaksin all along.

He revealed in a radio interview over the weekend that about 20-30 military officers -- all Thaksin's former classmates -- will be joining the party to "help the country in our own way."

ACM Sumet has emerged as one of Thaksin's right-hand men, heading the military faction in a new political line-up.

It's not clear whether Thaksin's former Military Cadets College class-mates could get along with Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, the newly-named Pheau Thai's chairman.

Sumet would only say that Gen Chavalit's mission is to seek national reconciliation.

Sumet told Matichon in an interview published this morning that Thaksin had invested Bt 4 billion to set up Thai Rak Thai Party. "It's a risk because he didn't know whether he will get any return on the investment."

He said Thaksin could have spent less money by making donations to the various political parties  instead of plunging into politics himself.

"But Thaksin decided to set up the party because a very senior puuyai  -- he never told me who he was -- had asked him to set up the party to help the country. He could have handed out donations to various parties like what the big corporations were doing...." Sumet said.

He added: "Thaksin was targetted because some of the big businesses wanted to give him money but he turned them down. They got suspicious and that's why they ganged up on him...."

If you hadn't heard of this theory behind Thaksin's "sacrifices for the country before," please get enlightened now.

ian, actually more obtuse than oblique or cryptic.

As I mentioned last month; there was to be a hospital visit on Sept. 15th which was postponed due to the reds holding a party on the 19th, this exacerbated the illness.

ND, It seems my comment was far too oblique for you, it also shows that you have not got your ear as close to the ground as you think. Sorry I can say no more for reasons that you are happy they exist

We all know you are the master of the glib retorts; but is there any substance to you at all?

But Ian c5, you who has been in the forefront of being off-topic on many blogs now try to avoid answering any questions posed to you - again by another glib response.

And what did you expect from “a Thai with a rather poor overseas education”; who only wants to know if you still stand by your words?

I am curious whether you still think that thaksin is not leading the divisiveness through the puea thai party and the reds. His advice to his puea thai party and the reds recently was to disassociate themselves from the charter amendments.
Amendments that they themselves howled for; amendments that they actively discussed in numerous committees and that concluded in revisions or amendments to six articles.

But now that it becomes time to act on the charter re-write; puea thai as instructed by thaksin are backing off. Don’t you find that curious? That they don’t want any form of referendum on a charter re-write and have backed-off from something that they were the ones that stridently and fervently wanted?

Or is it because it doesn’t give thaksin the pardon he needs and wants?

Just answer the questions. It’ll do you good to re-address your words and give you a chance to re-consider them.

Comment 3 seems not only off topic but very much a "non sequitur", ND you need to start thinking not just reacting.

Uh, Ian; aren't these the military establishment that you want Thailand's politics and democracy to extricate itself from?

So what's the difference between thaksin and the other politicians?

So what would a GE achieve? A return to the same old same old? Back to the future?

So who represents your disafected and disenfranchised?

The reds who are in the pocket of thaksin?

Or

puea thai party who serve the wishes of thaksin?

And you say that thaksin is far away and has no influence on Thailand. Would you like to recant your statement and consistent denials now?

They don't know how quickly their influence still left for them is fading away after they lose their official positions. Or they know it, so they are in haste?
