Chamlong tells Suvarnabhumi director: Reopen airport...

In a new twist, Chamlong Srimuang, a core leader of PAD, today sent a note to Airports Authority Governor Serirat Prasutanont asking him to reopen the two international airports "because our protestors have not blocked the landings and departures of aircraft."

Serirat said he had instructed the new airports to reopen as of 6.00 pm tomorrow (Monday, Dec 1) because as of today, many protestors are still rallying in front of the airports' passenger terminals.

Chamlong said in his letter that the PAD protestors were gathered outside the terminals. "We have not gone into the runways or the control towers. So, I ask you, as the governor in charge of the two main airports, to provide proper protection to the aircraft and related activities."

In other words, the PAD leader was suggesting that PAD did not not to be blamed for the "seizures" of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueng -- an action that has come under severe criticism from within the country and without.

Chamlong's letter was a subtle retreat to blunt the heavy criticism from various circles after the two airports were effectively closed following PAD protestors' rallies at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueng.

Windy's number one fan

I can’t believe Gen Chamlong can make such a stupid commend and seriously expecting people to believe it.

This situation shows me the quality of the media, leaders and members of the society. I really am disappointed in what I am seeing.

So now Chamlong tells the airports to open, and at the same time tells his troops in Government house to abandon their position there and join him at the two airports. Seems contradictory messages to me.

Life for many people in Thailand is taking on a dreamlike quality. The thought of the airport opening tonight is sheer fantasy except for military craft which can fly independent of an effective ground control system.

NOT POSSIBLE NOW, AFTER THE OCCUPATION OF PAD COMRADES FOR TOO LONG A TIME, SOME SYSTEMS MAY NOT BE FUNCTIONED PROPERLY.

There is however the wee problem of lunatics with guns there......not exactly the environment conducive to operating an international airport. Lets not even buy into everything else he has done and said in the last week about keeping the airport closed!!!!

If the airport opened tonight I would refuse to use it, functionally it will be a shambles.

In another strange twist THAI is now asking all passengers with tickets to contact their offices, a little late for this isn't it?

Duuuh oooooh! Looks like a light finally went on somewhere. You bet your last dollar (which might be harder to find now all the tourists aren't here) stranded tourists won't be coming back if ever. Why the rush now? Why don't you keep it closed and let everyone use U Ta Pao as they've started to do. Amazing Thailand, how pathetic!

Ok except this without gotting he is trying to back down don't as Mr. T claims back him into a corner give him a road to escape, you can arrest him later. the important thing is to get the airports back.

Seems that the opening of the Airports was another hoax. The Airlines have be allowed to evacuate 88 aircrafts.

Chamlong is lying, but if he needs to lie to cover his traitorous face as he backs down, we can accept that.

No one expects the truth from Chamlong any more than we would expect other signs of moral decency.

The "Joker" did it again. I'm not going to say a lot, just remind people of the firetrucks used for the barricades. They are from the Firefighting station between the 2 runways.
Good if they are moving out, but add 2 days before a possible re-opening. The entire building and airside needs to be sweeped according to international regulations. Who knows what was brought in during the last 3 days.
