My BD with the world oldest passenger ship

.....

Last week my company offered a day off for my birthday celebration.

Actually I had no idea what to do. Most of my friends had to work cuz it’s not weekend.

But that night, reading  the forwarded e-mail from my manager made me quickly start a plan to visit the world oldest active passenger ship, MV DOULOS, well known as the worldwide biggest floating library, visiting Thailand during July 30th – August 23rd 2009 at Klong Toey Port of Thailand.

It could be a nice day if the cloud didn’t seem dark a bit. But I couldn’t cancel the short trip of my BD. With a friend studying a master course, [no need to work^^], I went by a taxi to the port. After around 20 minutes drive from my place, the ship was front of me.

“ahhhh it’s DOULOS,” my friend said. We took the first short of the day as the upper picture you saw.

.

.

I liked it though It’s not the biggest ship I’ve ever saw.  The ship crews were from worldwide youth volunteers seeking to bring knowledge and help people many ways, for example teaching languages.   If there were a chance to cruise with them, I would not lose it exactly cuz the ship could bring me around the world.  It’s my dream….lol

.

.

Two tickets were 20 Bath only! The cheapest price of ship entrance I ever stepped on.

.

...

...

...

Took a glance at the warning, No rules I could break. I can swim. I don’t climbing. I don’t smoke and I’m not a child^^

And welcome to DOULOS where books from many countries waiting its owners to bring home.

...

But after a short time the book fair strolling, the rain broke and getting harder. The crews spread out plastic plates to prevent us from the rain…. T^T

Though it’s hot a bit, everyone still enjoyed reading and seeking their books.

.

.

...

...

Raining and raining …water and water …wanna see the raining scene but no allow going out side

.

.

...

No smoking please.....^^

...

Information desk and volunteer from Korean…her English speaking was so good!  O_O

...

A thick book before travelling? ^^

Or a thin one? ...^^

.

.

...

After an hour, the rain was gone…we explored the ship…and that day I got no book but this souvenir bag…^^

.

...

...

....

Though I don’t know where you are right now MV Doulos… thank you for making my BD...

.

.

and what about you? what did you do in your last BD? care to share?

Why didn't you ask the Korean girl what her first job was on ship ?.

Cool... floating library...

Is it a library, or a bookstore? Coz if it's a library, how do you return the books you borrowed?

My last BD huh... can't remember... what did I do?

Yabua, you’re right! International book fair and the oldest ship make interesting compounding. The books were cheap as well becuz the ship had cruised around the world.

Your Frankfurt book fair must be very fun. For me, only chance to see and explore things new is very challenging. Wish to see the event once! ^^ for Museum of Siam, no chance to visit yet…thank you for telling me.^^

That it´s a book fair makes this ship very interesting.
I live very near Frankfurt which hosts the world biggest book fair at the beginning of autumn every year. I have never missed it.

I think you had a wonderful birthday celebration.

BTW, have you already visited Museum Siam? It can be a great dayout too.
