Lets have fun at ChiangKhan, the Mekhong riverside town

8 hours far from Bangkok, 40 minutes drive from Loei downtown, ChiangKhan, the serene old town is waiting to welcome tourist worldwide. Besides a German group tour, the five of us had fun moment there last month with bicycling, picnic, market strolling, and the Mekhong River sight seeing.

.

.

.

.

As soon as arriving the simply guesthouse, the atmosphere of my life completely changed, serenity, fresh air, friendly host, and lazy time. it was completely different from Bangkok.

.

only 150 Baht a night/person...

.

.

.

.

ChiangKhan, the small guesthouse, where we planned to sleep in, was full with tourist from Germany and Thailand. It was simple yet fabulous. The nice smell of the wood made you sleep so well that night.  The Thai cat sleeping on the long table front of the hall way to guest room made me even more grateful of coming.

.

.

.

My friend jumped to this bamboo-made-hammock after unpacked her load. I didn’t know why only this little thing could make us feel so good.

.

.

.

.

After relaxing in the house, around 3 pm, when the temperature was not so hot (that we melted); we started the planned activities, bicycling along side the Mekong River, going local market and picnic for sun set.

.

.

.

.

.

Houses in this old street are conserved. Tourist can see some old wooden houses on the way bicycling.

.

.

.

Bicycle path is well prepared. We could see a village of Thailand- neighborhood, Laos, as well.

.

.

.

.

The another side of the river was the land of our neighborhood, Laos.

.

.

In rain season, we could imagine how much the tide of Mekhong River rising from these measure bars.

.

.

.

Next, there were nice shops we visited.

.

This one sells old postcards of ChiangKhan

.

.

.

This one was restaurant, pub and ticket booking center..^^

.

.

.

.

I bought a pillow from this shop. it'snt too soft, perfect and cheap. 50 Baht

.

.

.

.

We wrote postcard and sent to ourselves.^^

.

Postbox

.

.

That night, I even didn't realise when i fell in sleep cuz the all day travelling. it was fun time and priceless.

if you're seeking a serene yet lively place, please dont forget ChiangKhan, the place where i promised to go back again....

Pasa, Great pictures. It reminds me of my soon to be "hometown" of Chaingrai. The golden triangle is close by (and Laos is just across the river----i was told that there is a casino on the other side----heh,heh,heh).

Nah, GG, the wind blew frequently…and the shadow of the houses, plus those big trees along side the road prevent us from the sun. If we came CK during November-January, the air would be cool….but we may cannot effort a room.

Chiang Khan is lovely. My wife and I had our wedding feast in a resort on the banks of the river over twenty years ago, where I first ate jumping prawns!

We went there again this New Year, and were surprised how much had changed. The resort is not there anymore, and there has been unbelievable development, but it is still an amazing place.

You took some great photos!

Tow, I was surprised that you’re around^^ I thought you had gone to UK for studying…or I did misunderstand something? ^^

EXP, thanks …I went CK with friends, three gals and a guy. It called its priceless time cuz some of them were my high school friends and some were friends during my university time. They all got along well.

And ….Nah, not kidding, I sent the postcard to myself really. That moment I didn’t remember anybody else address. And the truly beautiful postcard should be stamped from the post office….^^ and your suggestion was so cool! Really cool! I should send to the Nation...they are bloggers too. …next time I will. The Nation is always my good friend. They provide us a space for lovely moment in life (like this…hehe). no matter what other people abuse or defend them, I still always love them....this outlet seems not much commercial and follow their hearts. It’s lovely spirit..^^

Yabua, the picture of those wood shops ….right? but the atmosphere was completely different. There were just about 10 tourists, from Vietnam (I guess from words they’re talking), German, UK and Thai on the street. And observing around, I think people came to CK to enjoy sight seeing and serenity. For shopping, not main course. But for whom from different edge of world or culture would be greatly fond of having simply local food and friendly local people.

Talking about Loei….there are some abundant natural places and beautiful culture^^ hmm…like Phukraduang, the acclaimed big mountain where im going to visit at the end of this year. Phurea, I went camping there last year, you can see it from my blog list. Phuluang, the exotic forest where wild orchid is well known and I wish to visit one day. and Pee-Ta-khon Festival at Dan sai…..^^

Pasa, nice descriptions and pictures. I can feel you are with a group of young Thai people who's just as good as you.

Did you guys/gals rent your bikes there or you brought them along?

Nah, you were kidding when you said you sent postcards addressed to yourselves! However, if you run out of places to send postcards, how about sending them to The Nation? I'm sure all the staff at The Nation will appreciate them. I think The Nation has had received more abuses than the praises. Don't you think so?
