“Hello, PM Samak…, are you ok with the illness?” we said at Bumrungrad Hospital where he has been admitted.

Today afternoon while I was at Bumrungrad Hospital lounge, strangely, I saw a big group of cameramen walking out from the hospital out patient building’s elevator.

“May be a famous person has been admitted to the hospital,” said my friend, joking with smile that she'd like to find that patient’s room and ask for its signature.

“May be not, there are some big meeting rooms on the 12th floor. An important meeting or interesting discussion may be taking place and interested the Journalist,” I protested, and then we moved from the lounge.

About 10 minutes later, a friends from KK called me asking that I did see the premier or not. Samak Sundaravej was suffering from diarrhea because he ate some Vientiane food; fermented fish mixed chili paste.  After listed the rough information, I was surprised.

“That’s it. I’ve just said it, but which priminister?” walked nearer me and said my friend.

“How many PM that a country could have? Samak, don’t you know him?” I replied.

After that we tried to find the room with curiousness, but we didn’t succeed. (^^)

PM has influenza, not food poisoning; doctor

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has suffered from influenza, not food poisoning as earlier claimed, doctors of Bamrungrat Hospital where he was receiving treatment said Tuesday. ….

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/04/01/politics/politics_30069746.php

I found the news after came back to my apartment. Chatting on MSN, some of my friends said the gobble like him served it! Some said oh….it made them think about “Chim Pai Bon Pai”, his program about food on television.

Taking a rest for a few days, he will feel better and could return to his work, said the doctor of Bumrungrad Hospital in Thairat the newspaper online.

At the moment, it is quite hot in Thailand. It is possibly happened to everyone. The PM is human as well.  But what I am wondering is that why they earlier said that the premier had suffered diarrhea and later denied it.  And I’ve never heard that food poisoning is a side effect of influenza. Are they afraid of the two country relationship? So that they denied that the Vientiane food is not the cause of the illness. Or is it shame that a PM suffers diarrhea?

As an interesting aside, many people in my village are suffering from a combination of herpes simplex and mouth ulcers. This is a well known symptom of stress.

influenza can be a very serious illness for geriatrics, even so I think it was a dose of Montezuma's revenge:-)

I  come in peace :)

Btw pasa I think you might be right about your last paragraph..
food poisoning can be pretty bad, but influenza wouldn't warrant such a long stay.

catch I have a friend that went to the hospital becaus she had a "horrible dream with bad omens" in it. :)
Now I'm starting to think it might have been a case of food poisoning instead !

Regardless of how high their status all human's have to poop.
I suspect it was food poisoning, but then someone realised it wasn't good PR to say so, hence the influenza story. I'm sure half a dozen or so multi coloured pills and he'll be as right as rain.

Do people here REALLY go into hospital for the flu?

Every country has their own hospital cum slaughter house! Bumrungrad caters for the wealthy Thais and foreigners like GGrass. Have you not heard of Medical Holiday Pakages in Japan like a golf trip to Phuket with full dental fillings done? The bill would be half by going to Phuket instead of doing it in Tokyo. I heard one Japanese lady spent over 300,000 baht to fill all her cavities in Japan. That's life folks!

Giving birth by c-section (package) which includes the whole operation with 2 nights stay in the hospital costs 59,000 B or 69,000 B, I'm not sure... at the end of the whole thing, the bill comes out to be around 70,000 +.

Samitivej, the package costs more than Bamrungrad, and at the end of it, the total bill comes out to be more than 100,000 B.

I've used them both...

I like Samitivej coz there are less people, but Bamrungrad is cheaper...

The last time I used a hospital I went to the Mission Hospital in Lan Luang. The service and facilities were excellent and I expected the price to be high for two consultations and two ultrascans.
In fact it was so cheap that I was unable to claim on my travel insurance.

This hospital is extremely expensive isn't it? My daughter's friend who's only 11, had food poisoning and her worried mom sent her to this hospital. They are filipinos. She stayed for 2 nights and was given only medicine you can buy from our local pharmacies. When the bill came, it was Bht. 45000! I was really shocked when she told me about it. Another Japanese mom went to see a doctor for coughing syrup. They charged her Bht. 2500! So PN....what were you doing there? Is Bumrungrad that expensive? If anything happens to me and a "potuktueng" picks me up near this hospital, I have to make sure they send me somewhere else!
