BTW,

"Some poor people lives in BKK and thier condition are harder than those in rural". I totally agree with this one. With the inflation now, their condition are worst than before.

Ninja,

The school uniform........such uniform are standard in e-san. In bangkok not very many nowadays, right? They're dark blue shorts and white shirts.

What you've said I also have no arguements.....

Keep walking forward. Don't give up. Don't fed up.

LLD, why did you think that the boy is not Bankokian? Some poor people lives in BKK and thier condition are harder than those in rural. it's possible, I think. In BKK, yesterday I saw some boys begging on the bridge. and from now on, I think I would see it everyday and would be familiar with it one day.

Ninja,

I actually took some time to study the painting and I found there's a contradition in itself.

Look at the boy's shirt, old and wrinkle seeing the colar indicates it's torn. the sock seems the color is fading. The pair of shorts it's been worn a very, very long time as you can see the fading color line. For sure this boy is with a poor family background and definitely not one from Bangkok otherwise he will be nicely dressed.

Now look at the brief case or school bag if you want call it. If it's from a poor family, how can they afford such school bag, it only happens in Bangkok and not in the rural. The lunch box on the side is even out of the question.

I don't think this painting is anything about the poor but rather about our Royals. The painting clearly specify the image of our King and how we should appreciate him. You think so?

Ninja,

Life is not fun, ask anybody in this blogsite whether their life is hard or fun at all, they will all have the same answer. It's something everone of us have to go through. The world is cruel and we have to make the best out of it. You're stepping into the real society now, there will be harder times that makes you depress, makes you sad, makes you unhappy but there's also times that will make feel you're appreciated, you have accomplished something. Just don't ever give up no matter how hard the life is. Compromise with it, learn to live with it and you will be as sucessful as you can be. You're a very clever girl with amazing idea and imagination. The society will not leave you behind, I'm sure?

GG,

The painting is not that sad at all, look on the bright side. Check out the eye line of the boy, he's looking at the 20bth with our King image and seem to be smiling and the granny seem disappointed of his behavior...ha ha ha ha ha...

pasaNinja,
I live in Isaan and I worked in KKU campus for two years in the past.

This one piece of picture seems to say, all about today's Thailand education problem.

80 % of Thai children grow without both or either of partents, who are largely migrant workers. The children are left at the hand of granny.
So edu people say "Thai edu is granny edu system !". Also that undermines gravely the family institution and its invaluable importance to found strong morality.

Ninja: For me, as a kid, being given 20 Baht on my way to school would be a very joyful event.

And for me, as a father, giving 20 Baht to my kid on his way to school would be even greater joyful event.

But the painting is anything but joyful.

Why is that?

LLD, sometimes I think that beting adult is hard. Sometimes it’s not fun. ^^

GG, it’s nice to know the song’s title. I have been finding for a long time.
"DatChi Mottan MaUem" "Heart that could not be reached" it sounds sad but pleasantly. I like it so much. ^^ by the way, GG,I am trying to find the meaning of this paint as well. Why does the old woman not smile? It sounds sad. My feeling tells me that I understand it, but I can’t speak it in any languages. If you know what I mean^^ and yesterday was your mother’s birthday? So Happy birth day GG mom^^

catch….OoO….possibly! and the boy is going te do a mission!

Naïve, it seems you are art professional! Your imagination about the paint is impressive.(for me) ^^

wch, or may be she got the money from the boy’s parents working in a factory in BKK or industrial area. Excuse me, can I ask you? Are you living in Isaan? You know about this region quite well. (I feel like that)

This photo or picture is the scene often seen on morning of school days in this rural Isaan.
The boy's posture is apparently of making 'Wai' to the grandma.

She probably earned the 20 baht note by selling some herbes, or by her labour.

What's the technique for this paint! looks so real
all the wrinkles of the grandma and a bit strain and un-ironed old school shirt (But white.. show the caring of the family) The food blows (Pinto) 's telling he will have lunch for sure plus some snack during the day by the 20 baht in grandma's hand.. Leather bag looks old may be used for few generation... Hmm miss old good days

Ninja: Nice... pic and song... Do you know the title of this song?

In Korean, it's "DatChi Mottan MaUem"

It means "Heart that could not be reached."

It's rather sad title... heart that could not be reached...

When I was a kid, about same age as the little kid in the painting, the most amount of money given to me by my mom was 5 Baht, may be once a month.

The rest of the time, I made it without any money. Not that I needed money... Money was for playing arcade games or buying candies.

Whenever I got money from my mom, I would be so happy and run off like a rocket. Being given 5 Baht coin was the best joy of my young life. As for my mom, she would be happy too... She would be happy that the coupons she used instead of cash at the market had provided some changes to give to her three sons. She would be happy that her thrift had brought smiles to her sons' faces. She would be happy that her embarrassment had paid off very well.

I wonder why this picture above, does not show the joy I used to have, when my mom or grandma gave me their money... And I wonder why the old lady in the picture does not smile...

The kid's parents are not caring for him, probably to busy working in the city, conveniently forgetting to send home money, leaving him under the care of his grandma. Sad but true.
