Cyclone survivors want journalists & reporters not UN Chief

I have read news about "Cyclone Survivors Don’t Want UN Chief to Visit Delta" from Irrawaddy.

http://www.irrawaddy.org/article.php?art_id=12181

It will be hard to believe  and understand for many foreigners when reading  Burmese military and local authroities are abusing and intimidating  many cyclone victims  even under the situation of life and death.

But  having lived under regime  rule and  its "the system" for many years, I know this kind of  news  and stories are  totally true.

Actual situation  and facts on the field is far different from what we all see on TV. And when it is in Burma, it is for the worse.

I hope UN chief Ban Ki Moon doesn't get fooled by what he see or hear from Burmese generals and mis-judge the situation in Burma.
If UN chief want to know actual situation, he doesn't even need to go to the hard hit delta region.
Please just help to get international journalists and news reporters in the field of delta region together with aid workers.
And they will just simply tell the world what they see.

Pray for all the survivers . May all be free from their suffering.

I think UN chief will set a lock around Burma. He is now decisive to show a hand. Let me see his new Burma plan coming soon in UN building.

I am sorry, i was not here for a while since i've been busy with support for fund raising activities,
and other volunteer works ( packing and loading relief items to ship Burma etc..) with
Burmese community and other groups in this city...
It make me feel better at least.
i have lots of thought to write. But now is time to wait and see..

But we all need to remember that we can never over-expect and jump into early optimistic by
promises that we hear from regime in Burma..

They know how it works and i think I know how they work.

Words are just words. nothing will change until there is follow up action from them.

Clock start ticking.. Now is day 1 after Big Sunday meeting in Rangoon.
Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok was burnt down. is it really coincidence.? I dont know.
But we definately need to find out. No excuse from Junta should be allowed to delay the process to save people.

Now has been already 24 days since Burma was hit by the disister.
Majority of cyclone survivors received are frusration, pain, hunger, anger, despair and helplessness but not
food, shelter, medicine,safety and hope.

International community should take effective action but i have no idea when will they think it is
time to take moral responsibilty as a global citizens to save lives.

But i think i know the final outcome and end of this story....just words..with slow, minimum help
to the people...Burma stroy will continue another episode with the same theme and same ending..
So i just do whatever I can help to people in my own scale..

Just a thought, modern spy satellites can take high resolution pictures with a resolution sufficient to show individual people. Even Google Earth can. Why are we seeing no such pictures?

UN and Asean: Save victims or junta?

"huge dilemma ?"
I think it is huge exaggeration.
Think simple and do it simple. This is merely an aids work.

It is the time what ASEAN can do now.

"The humanitarian crisis in Burma is grave and urgent," he told the conference. "

Comments :
UK shall refrain for any political orders toward the junta, in consideration of the past relationship.
They have to make the aids, flewn and delivered on time firsthand.

*** U.S., British and French warships, loaded with humanitarian supplies, have been cruising off Myanmar's coast. But last week state-media said they would not be allowed into the country, citing fears of an American invasion to snatch the country's oil supplies.

Thein Sein, saying that 3,200 tons of humanitarian supplies have already been delivered from abroad, presented a long list of urgent needs including temporary shelters, rice seeds, fertilizer, fishing boats and new salt factories.****

comments :

Naval ships can be moored at 12 neutical miles away from the delta and 'BARGES' can get unload and directly transport to each of delta seaways.

UN must form an "independant aids agency" free from political intervention (like UNICEP or East Timor's formula), to Burma, that carries on the rehabilitation work, together with Burman officials and workers.

Political tags to aids must be refrained as much as possible.

Burma must get first " Sun Shine " and lead them to opening process step by step.

catch, on the other hand this could be a good time with global attention on the Chinese and Burmese disasters rather than on politics. It would depend a lot on her behaviour if released.

They must go back and read the Burman history first and try to find the fundamental clue to sort out Burmese mass.

Japanese Korean medical teams are now on sites, started work.

Now, What EU ?. UK and French aids cargo ships are unloading their cargoes at Rangoon ?.

It seems to me that, the UNSG, Ban works effectively, while holding US forces at U-Tapao (they just finished war game with Thai's) as a standby forces for transportation of aids material ( ,
Immediately he flew over to Sichuan and timingly met Wen PM PRC and draw his attention to Burma, (even raising aid in cash, a million dollars).

Now he even demands Burma junta to allow international journalists for free access to every hit area.

Let me watch his show how far it reaches,

wch, as long as the UN is constantly deadlocked by either China, Russia or the US wielding their powers of veto it will always be a headless chicken.

This is a typical Thai thinker,

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/05/24/opinion/opinion_30073848.php

As the junta agreed on free access of UN team, they badly need the site informations. All Burman reporters and civilians must help post information to any available websites.

Japan and Korean medical aid teams are on way.
Asean must action the same urgently.

Idian Ocean Cyclones are coming more soon, even tonight. They estimate 5- 10 more during this monsoon season.
Urgently the SHELTERS must be built.

Bangladesh built so far 400, and 2000 more are under construction. The shelter is built by reinforced concrete structure, highrise, nearby village, where emergency electricity, water and dry foods are in stock.

For the Irrawady case, there is no time to build such permanent structure.
I suggest, bringing in old, decommissioned boats and ships of size, 500 to 2000 ton. This ship can be easily gathered from all over the world.
The vessel can be safely moored along canal nearby village, with chain. It can resist strong wind as well as tzunami.

Most of house affected was flattened. They need house. Aids must be in form of ready-made house materials that can be assembled quickly on site.
This kind of house materials are readily available from Japan, Korea and Australia.

International early-warning system must be built at same time.

UN must regulate a new charter, that UN has the right to involve 'life saving action' on any spot of the earth, with/without consent of the beaten nation. UN must standby military forces to support such action. US and EU must support this action.

It is time for some lateral thinking.

In 1959, the government of Egypt decided to build the Aswan Dam (Aswan High Dam), an event that would flood a valley containing treasures of ancient civilization such as the Abu Simbel temples. UNESCO then launched a worldwide safeguarding campaign, despite appeals from the governments of Egypt and Sudan. The Abu Simbel and Philae temples were taken apart, moved to a higher location, and put back together piece by piece.

This was the start of the creation of "World Heritage"sites. Note that the objections of Egypt and Sudan were ingnored.

There are ten criteria which can allow a heritage site to be created, criteria 5 is as follows.

"to be an outstanding example of a traditional human settlement, land-use, or sea-use which is representative of a culture (or cultures), or human interaction with the environment especially when it has become vulnerable under the impact of irreversible change";

This sounds to me like a perfect description of the delta region at the moment.

So declare it a UNESCO world heritage site and you do not need the consent of the Burmese government.

wch - the delta area is mostly Karen - the scurge of the junta.

Khakaborazi - I understand you 100% and feel very deeply for you and your country. Unfortunately it's not just the forces of the junta holding Burma back - as you know.

Please continue to vent your feelings here as much as possible, just try to get a few things out of your system as much as you want or can. Don't worry about comments.

Best wishes to you and your family

Now, what UN team needs, is the correct information of where the village is unattended, isolated and suffer from discrimination from central junta government.

The affected area is the broad delta apron of 250 km x 150 km where 15 millions of , various ethnities are scattered, unattended. Village to village is a mound of human bodies and dead animals.

This area has been thoroughly prohibited for aid workers since the beginning.

If the irrawady or other Burmese informants can post every possible information about the local situation, those informations are very much helpful to UN team.

It is not strange to guess, many Mons, Karens, Tennaserim, Arkans and Chins, the non-conformity group to the vicious junta, are deserted in this condemned zone
and deseases and starvation is quickly covering them now.

Burmese informants must report, which part is ideal to the landing and distribution center that UN helicopters can land directly to the affected zone.

Fold up such political ego and concentrate on the rescue work only.

Catch,
I agree with you.
I have nothing to argue with what you have said logically.
But emotionally, the pain in all of them(us) have been so long and so deep.
sometimes our emotion take over our judgment, action and our words.
Irrawaddy was reporting what they heard from the people in the field and I believe it. But it might not be able to represent everyone.
All of us are trying not to politicize from the current worst nightmare in Burma. But
like I said, our frustration and unbearable pain take over our mind sometimes.

It is true that in some places, refugees are asked to go back to their villages and homes from where they are staying right now.

Like you said, it will take years for recovery in Burma. Not only this disaster affected area but the rest of the country will suffer from the consequences in coming months and years.
I wish and pray that Ban Ki Moon’s visit to Burma could open the deadlock, get the effective solutions in saving many people lives.

Majority of us do not really care anymore who govern or control power in Burma as long as our children have enough food, shelter, medicare and education. It does not really matter anymore it is Military, Communists, Dictatorship or Democratic government in Burma .
But we need someone to scram loud to get help to get our basic needs and Irrawaddy is doing this for us as it could.

If anyone want to blame them, pls blame their head, but not their heart.

I have no correct words to express my gratitude to the world’s sympathy and help to us in times of needs. But we need a lot.. a lot more in Burma.

The situation in the relief camps is getting a bit nasty. They are like the concentration camps, you are not allowed out, no visitors allowed and not enough food. And there are rumors that the refugees will be sent back to the villages with just bags of rice...no shelters buit for them, no nothing, nothing for them to do...the land has soaked up salt water and will not be arable for between 3 to 6 yrs. They will need genetically engineered rice seeds which can grow in saline ground plus special ferilizers, plus training...who is going to give them that - their eastern border friends??

The Eastern border insurgents and the other morons situated in Mae Sot are jumping up and down with glee.
They should have pushed forward softly, a little at a time, agreeing to meet without pre-conditions etc not this gung ho Rambo approach all the time.

But no, they AND The Lady knew best and now the generals are suffering 'eastern border syndrome (paranoia) and I can understand why? Everyone situated in and around Mae Sot has been shouting their mouths off for years and now......they can do what.......??
