Call to boycott Booze and Smokes!

Drinkers of alcohol and smokers of tobacco, lend me your ears!

Comrades! The useless government people are after us! AGAIN!

I still remember the last time when they increased the tax, to make my favorite ciggy cost wopping 63 Baht, and now they are going to jack up the price AGAIN!!

And not only are they going to jack up the tax on ciggies, but also on booze as well!

The useless government people want to collect more moeny from the smokers and drinkers, because they have spent all our tax money on their wives' handbags and their mia nois' mobilephones.

Why can't they think of other things to suck on, such as luxury cars or luxury watches? Just a few days ago, there was a watch festival where a watch costing my life time salary was on sale. Why don't they increase tax on that?

BMWs and Mercedes Benz are flooding the street because apparantly they are too cheap for the Thai millionaires. Why don't the government milk from that?

I'm going to quit smoking and quit drinking. Actually, on second thought, I change my mind. I'm still going to smoke and drink, but I'm only going to buy cigarettes and alcohols from duty free shops in other country's airports.

And I urge all of you to do the same.

Let's see if the government can afford to send their wives on holiday to spas and  liposuction centers without our contribution to 'sin tax' money!!

hehehe....

'Pot' means marijuana, but it means 'low quality marijuana'.

'Shwag' is the worst quality marijuana. The kind of stuff that's dry, brown, and full of stems and seeds.

The best quality marijuana is called 'Sativa', followed by 'Indica'.

But it is debatable which is the best, 'Sativa' or 'Indica' because they give you different kind of high.

'Sativa' will get you high, and 'Indica' will get you stoned.

c7/Hi P'Ian:Is that how the word pot was derive from? Initially I had the notion that it was taken from the word 'potty' because people using that substance had to do so in hiding and the loo was probaly the most viable place

I can remember when cannabis was made illegal in England and the street price started to go through the roof, everyone started to grow their own. Every bedsit had a "pot" plant
perhaps it's time people did the same with tobacco, I already make my own whisky. Both is illegal of course in England but I doubt if it is in Thailand.

GG-Maybe it's time for you to smoke less. I'm sure you don't want your kids to pick up this behavior of yours when they grow up.....do you? When you get older and have lung sickness due to smoking, that's when the nightmare starts, not the increase taxes dear.

If we are all rising up against the government for increasing the taxes, I will be there.

Count your blessings, G Grass. Count your many blessings one by one.

Where I came from, a pack of cigarette costs over Baht 100, and that was about 20 years ago! Today it costs a lot more. The same story with booze.

No one is saying that you cannot smoke. It is a free world, and by all means, inhale all you want until you die. No one will care except your wife, children, parents and siblings.

And of course the government cares, too, because it costs the government too much money (in my country) to take care of sick citizens and residents it is bankrupting the country! That's one of he problems when you have universal health insurance largely funded with tax money.

I am all for increasing sin taxes every year until people learn to restrain themselves and alter their bahavior. The end objective is to reduce the number of smokers and alcoholic beverage consumption to the minimum. Sure it will eventually reduce government revenues a bit, but that's a fair price to pay for ensuring a healthier society at large and less pollution from second hand smoke.

Actually, if one enjoys committng a slow suicide like smoking cigarettes, it would be better just to load up a hand gun and point it at one's temple, pull the rigger and get it over with. That way there is no collateral damage to worry about.

The whole idea of taxing poeple to punish them for enjoying something is wrong.
If the excuse is that its unhealthy, then teh fatty pork tax needs to be raised, as does the tax for living in such a polluted city as Bangkok.

Hi GGrass,

I sent you a private message on here about your idea. I think you have the right idea when you say that these taxes are going towards the wrong things. Back in my home country, lottery profits were found not to be going towards the educational system like promised, but towards something else wasteful and self-indulgent on behalf of the government workers who were entrusted with the money.
