The ULTIMATE Golf Tip.
Posted by GGrass , Reader : 107 , 15:44:28

Every month, surplus of golf magazines spit out 'the next' golf tips and technics that promise to improve your golf swing. Every teaching pros will tell you this will increase your driving distance by 50 yards, and reduce your handicap by 10. But if at least one of them were telling the truth, there won't be need for another edition of golf tips and advises, and all the golf magazines will surely go out of business. That's exactly why they don't tell you the truth on how to improve your golf game.

However, the golf industry has never paid me a dime, and I don't make my living from golf business, so I can tell you the truth on 'How to Improve your Golf'.

Listen carefully.

There are 2 aspects of golf... One is the 'SWING', and the other is the 'BALL'. Every golfer thinks about the swing, and the ball... Now, what I mean by swing, is, the physical movement of your body. And what I mean by ball, is, the physical movement of the golf ball.

The next time you are on the golf course, ask yourself, which aspect do you mainly think about? The swing or the ball?

If you are thinking about swing, then you are probably thinking about,

- Is my left arm straight?

- Is my weight on my left or right foot?

- Am I turning my hips during my backswing?

- Am I square to the target?

- Did I move my head during downswing?

And if you are thinking about the ball, then you are probably thinking about,

- What's the distance to the pin?

- Where the wind coming from? How strong?

- How's the ball lying? Above or below your feet?

- Should you draw the ball in, or fade it out?

- What flight path will your ball make? High flyer or low punch?

Usually, the amatuers make the mistake of thinking too much about the swing and not enough about the ball... The optimal distribution of your concentration on the swing and the ball should be 90:10.

Almost ALL of your thoughts should be on how your ball is going to fly through the air, and only a little bit should be on how your going to move your body.

Then when should you think about the swing? At the driving range.

That is my lesson number one...

My second tip, is that you have to watch a lot of golf on TV in order to play well. Now, you might be wondering what's watching TV got to do with playing well.

Well, it's got a LOT to do with playing well, because in order to make a good shot, you have to be able to visualize a good shot. And you'll never going to be able to visualize a good shot if you have never seen a good shot!

The guys you see on TV makes it look so easy, don't they? And believe me, it IS easy to do! Just make a dead aim, and execute the shot, and the ball WILL fly the way you imagined!

The important thing is, you have to imagine a positive shot, NOT a bad shot!

Before you drive at your tee box, you have to visualize your ball cutting through the air, flying 300 yards out, land on a safe area, and roll another 50 yards and stop in the middle of the fairway. And before you make a putt, you have to visualize your ball rolling smoothly and drop into the hole, and if you can imagine the sound it's going to make as the ball hit's the tin can, it's even better!

So, that's my lesson number two. Watch a lot of golf on TV, so you can visualize positive shots in your mind before you execute that perfect shot!

Now here comes the last, and the most important part of my lesson. Listen carefully.

The only way to improve your golf, is by PRACTICE!!! You can read all the books in the world, and you can watch all the VDO's in the store, but it's not going to do you any good, unless you practice on the driving range!!

How do you get to Augusta?

Practice, practice, PRACTICE!

This concludes my lesson... I hope it'll help you in your game, as it did mine!

Enjoy the game! ^^

wch: Great lesson! Thanks! ;-)

I use 49 (PW) around green almost all the time. Sometimes, I use 7 iron when I'm sure of the lie of the green, or when I'm not confident with PW.

I rarely use 58, as the price I have to pay for bad shot is too much.

At Nigeria, on the last hole, I used cinnamon wood driver to hit almost 300 yards off the tee on the 18th hole. It was down wind though... but nevertheless, a great shot. The hole was only 340 yards long, so I was left with 46 yards. I walked it off and it was 36 steps to the front of the green and 10 more to the pin. There was a bunker guarding the front. Thinking there wasn't much green to work with, I chose to use SW to flop it, try and fly it over the sand and land it just over the edge of the green and hole it for eagle. (dream on...-_-,)

And when I made the shot, I dug a big hole on the ground and the ball just moved 10 yards forward!!

ARRGGGGGG!!!!!! So depressing.... Only if I had made that flop shot, it would have made my day...

Luckily the ball stopped just a few yards short of the bunker. On my second attempt, I got it 2 feet to the hole and one putted for par... but still, I wasnt' happy at all....

It's great to talk about golf with someone who knows golf.

Chipping, the day's best shot, so often, Yes,
your question is the ultimate quest to any golfer.

On 30 yard chipping distance at green edge,
you can practise 5 iron, 7 iron, pitching wedge and sand wedge. (face angel, probably, 25, 28, 49, 53 by your clubs. SW over 53 degree is not wise as it often flows over the ball in chip shot).

Chipping grips vary but I used to choose more putting grip with little strong grip position, and I shoot to pin, try to memorize each club of pitching flight and rolling distance. 5 iron may fly (pitch) 10 yards and rolls 20 yards, 7 iron 15 y. fly,,,, PW probably 20 and SW 25.
These all are your records.

Again I repeat at 15 yards distance and,
Again I repeat at green edge, the low-cut grass.
(I dont use putter at this grass).

Chipping depends on grass and soil condition.
In this rainy season, 100 - 50 yards pitching shot is tricky as it goes deep into wet soil. Sometime I do chipping with 3 iron, especially 100 or farther chipping from between woods in tall grass along fairway, or even Driver chipping

Chipping also involves carefully over unseenable green or higher green. Look at the uphill angle and your club angle. 3 iron chipping on heavy slope often results finest !.

wch: and the punch shots... sometimes, from 120 yds, I'll pick up 6 iron and punch it onto the green.... I do it if I can't afford to miss it to the sides... it's either I leave it short or go over the pin, but I won't miss it to the sides.

As for chips, say, around the edge of the greens, how do you get the 'second bounce check'? is there any special technic for it?

3 iron must deliver fore-spin at tee.
5 iron must deliver back-spin at pin, not distance.

Wedges' back spins are fun, as well as pitch-and-run to pin.

7 iron's pitch and run is a good weapon, too.

cocking or caulking are equally used, probably from gun grip practice.

wch: I only have upto 5 iron...

I used to have up to 3 iron, but they were doing more harm than good. so I took them out of the bag...

But my 5 iron goes 190 + and my 5 wood is a high flyer, so I can actually land on a green and make the ball stay on green.

What wedges do you use? I have 49 and 58... I've mastered (sort of) the 49 for the approach shots (anything from 70 to 120), and my 58 is pretty deadly from 50.

Can you explain what 'De-Caulking' is? Is it same as cocking and decocking of the wrist?

One thing I forgot,
there is a famous formula,

FORCE = Mass x (A1 + A2) square.

A is the acceleration rate of speed.
A1 is body and arms' motion that need 'body work".
A2 is De-Caulking delivers. The real power and correctness to impact.

80plus player needs to practise 3 iron, to enter into 70plus play.

80plus game is the real fun.
You have to master all those tricky spin-balls.
Breaking 82 is easy.

Undoubtedly, correct swing is the answer all the time.

Golf is the psychological sports.

If one hold the "ultimate tip", he can correct himself quickly to recover his confidence.

I play within 80.

wch: You sound like you are addicted to golf, just like me! :-)

So, your 'ultimate tip' is

At the moment of impact, you should have returned to address position.

-----------------------------
My 'ultimate tip' is,

Out on the course, think about 'ball'. At the driving range, think about 'swing'. When making any shot, think positive, and at the end of the day, practice, practice, practice!

------------------------------------------
Now, if any golfers would come in and vote which one is the 'ultimate tip', it would be very fun...

Of course, the best shot goes with, undoubtedly, best looking swing form.

what I tried to say here, is the truth of real shot, that is applied to anyone, from children to old, from woman to man.

73 year senior still get good score, because he knows, the ultimate tip.

Without knowing this ultimate tip, one may someday lose the swing sensuality, and finally ended up to throw away the club.

wch: I'm glad to know you play golf!

And true... at the moment of impact, you should have returned to the address position.

But I have to argue, that we shouldn't think so much on our motions... sometimes, one can have a terrible swing but hit straight ball to the target everytime. (Those older players who never had lesson in their lives.)

I am not bragging, but I have a very good swing, although I've never had a lesson from a pro.

If you strive to hit a good shot, your body will automatically make a good looking swing.

If you strive to make a good looking swing, it doesn't guarantee a good shot.

You know what I mean?

Well Put. Golf is facinating game becuz 1) You play on wide open green field, 2) You can enjoy walks with company, and 3) It ain't easy. Most of the time, it ain't easy becuz of "what you know" VS "what you can" may differ....

If you had said this, I am sorry but,,
If I am asked of the ultimate tip, it is the moment of club hitting the ball, in right angle with club head being properly approaching toward ball and being following behind the ball hit.

The momentary still-photo is undoubtedly the same the addressing position and alignment of arm, club and ball, etc. This must be repeated when real hit.

This is the problem.
The secret is hand wrist caulking at back swing, and timing de-caulking to perform the right club head and right trackking of club and following body motion.

By repeating practises, the player must be able to 'see', the club movement just after hitting the ball.
By doing this, he can place his club on right plane of shaft circling, and can watch his club and arm following behind the ball, that is now on projectile line.

By doing this, he can keep his head at the center of club flying disc.

By doing this, he will learn how to generate maximum power, by slightly standing up when back swing. This rise-up is very important to generate power as well as 'rhythme sensuality' of whole set of swing motion.

All players will try to achieve this identical motion.
