Every month, surplus of golf magazines spit out 'the next' golf tips and technics that promise to improve your golf swing. Every teaching pros will tell you this will increase your driving distance by 50 yards, and reduce your handicap by 10. But if at least one of them were telling the truth, there won't be need for another edition of golf tips and advises, and all the golf magazines will surely go out of business. That's exactly why they don't tell you the truth on how to improve your golf game. However, the golf industry has never paid me a dime, and I don't make my living from golf business, so I can tell you the truth on 'How to Improve your Golf'. Listen carefully. There are 2 aspects of golf... One is the 'SWING', and the other is the 'BALL'. Every golfer thinks about the swing, and the ball... Now, what I mean by swing, is, the physical movement of your body. And what I mean by ball, is, the physical movement of the golf ball. The next time you are on the golf course, ask yourself, which aspect do you mainly think about? The swing or the ball? If you are thinking about swing, then you are probably thinking about, - Is my left arm straight? - Is my weight on my left or right foot? - Am I turning my hips during my backswing? - Am I square to the target? - Did I move my head during downswing? And if you are thinking about the ball, then you are probably thinking about, - What's the distance to the pin? - Where the wind coming from? How strong? - How's the ball lying? Above or below your feet? - Should you draw the ball in, or fade it out? - What flight path will your ball make? High flyer or low punch? Usually, the amatuers make the mistake of thinking too much about the swing and not enough about the ball... The optimal distribution of your concentration on the swing and the ball should be 90:10. Almost ALL of your thoughts should be on how your ball is going to fly through the air, and only a little bit should be on how your going to move your body. Then when should you think about the swing? At the driving range. That is my lesson number one...
My second tip, is that you have to watch a lot of golf on TV in order to play well. Now, you might be wondering what's watching TV got to do with playing well. Well, it's got a LOT to do with playing well, because in order to make a good shot, you have to be able to visualize a good shot. And you'll never going to be able to visualize a good shot if you have never seen a good shot! The guys you see on TV makes it look so easy, don't they? And believe me, it IS easy to do! Just make a dead aim, and execute the shot, and the ball WILL fly the way you imagined! The important thing is, you have to imagine a positive shot, NOT a bad shot! Before you drive at your tee box, you have to visualize your ball cutting through the air, flying 300 yards out, land on a safe area, and roll another 50 yards and stop in the middle of the fairway. And before you make a putt, you have to visualize your ball rolling smoothly and drop into the hole, and if you can imagine the sound it's going to make as the ball hit's the tin can, it's even better! So, that's my lesson number two. Watch a lot of golf on TV, so you can visualize positive shots in your mind before you execute that perfect shot!
Now here comes the last, and the most important part of my lesson. Listen carefully. The only way to improve your golf, is by PRACTICE!!! You can read all the books in the world, and you can watch all the VDO's in the store, but it's not going to do you any good, unless you practice on the driving range!! How do you get to Augusta? Practice, practice, PRACTICE!
This concludes my lesson... I hope it'll help you in your game, as it did mine! Enjoy the game! ^^
