What happened to day 2? Nothing. Nothing happened in day 2. Thank God... Talking about God, I went to church this morning. It was the first time I've been to church on Sunday in about 10 years. Never expected to goto a church in Nigeria... It was a very interesting experience. Getting to see the people and their ways of worshiping their God... practicing their religion... I reckon it's similar feeling of a Farang who enters a Thai temple and observe the Thai way of practicing their religion. It was a protestant church... A wooden structure with earthen floor... not much of a church really... just a warehouse with open windows. The service in church, and how the people went about in the church was very similar to that of a Korean church. I've been going to Korean protestant church for several years when I was in junior highschool, so I was quite familiar with the atmosphere. It felt a bit like a movie scene too... The people singing, clapping, and praying... Shouting in loud unisons, AMEN! Halleluja! The women looked like Whoopie Goldberg and men looked like Shaquil O'Neal... but when they sang, they sounded like Diana Ross and Richard Lionele... or something... very good singers... Hearing them sing gospel almost made me feel religious again. At the end of a song, I would catch their tune, and actually sing along loud with them. It was a good feeling... The service was VERY long.... It started around 8 in the morning and ended at noon. I was quite attentive, as I was more interested in the people than what the preacher was saying, although the preacher was saying good stuffs... (Which could be another blog if I talked about it... Christian philosophy and my philosophy...) After the service was over, the preacher and the brothers came over to shake my hand and asked a lot of questions. I had small converation with a crowd of curious men, and my friend came over to say it is time to go. But before I left, I got to take some pictures here, thanks to the enthusiastic children who were entertained by my appearance... My friend who took me there explains, "It's probably the first time a white man has entered this church." He called me a white man... He always calls me white man... At first, I corrected him and said, 'No. Not white man. Korea man.' But after awhile, I just let him call me a white man coz he kept forgetting that I was a Korean. Anyway... I'd like to post the pictures of the children I met at the church, but the computer here really sucks... Oh, by the way, I must apologize if I can't comment or reply much... it's not that easy you know... just writing a blog is already very difficult because of constant black outs. They do have the UPS, but the internet dies when there's a black out. And the computer is like 20 years old... if I load more than 2 windows, it gets jerky. So I'm writing down my thoughts and my observations on my diary. Sometimes writing with a pen has its own charms. I just hope when I have the chance, I rewrite all that onto a computer... Gotta go now. I gotta check out the Sunday atmosphere of Lago. I'm going to venture outside of the hotel for awhile. I don't know if it's a good idea, but since I'm here anyway, I gotta go all the way. Wish me luck! :-) |
