On Today's paper...

I couldn't help but laugh after reading the front page of today's paper. There was a little report about Korean Millitary Service and hair loss, when a 26 years old man lost his hair during his millitary service in the army, sued the nation for it, and actually won!

He will get monthly pention plus other benefits (medical, financial, etc) for the rest of his life, for losing his hair!!

In Korea, every male over 18 years of age must join the millitary for mandatory service, which could last from 2 to 3 years. You can join the Army, Navy, or the Air Force, but usually people choose Army coz it's the easiest...

Anyway, I used to have LOTS of hair before I got married, but now my bare scalp is showing around the top of my head. I've been in denial for almost a year now, but after my bald friend greeted me as one of his fellowmen, I now accept that I am going bald.

Should I be entitled to some sort of compensation from my wife? :-D

Ian, it's interesting that you brought up Propecia. It really works in preventing hair loss and also grows new hairs. A friend of mine has one older brother and two younger brothers. All of his brothers began to lose their hairs in their mid 20's and now they are completely bald. At that time he, too, was starting to lose some hairs. He began to take Propecia and within a couple months the bald spot disappeared. I think it has been 10 years since and he is now in his mid 30's and still no sign of going bald. He told me that he takes Propecia every other day on and off and pretty much not so consistant in terms of days and weeks, but he has been taking it for years now and the result really shows. I also have been taking Propecia on and off and it seems to work for me, too.

Hair loss usually develops gradually and may be patchy or diffuse (all over). Roughly 100 hairs are lost from your head every day. The average scalp contains about 100,000 hairs.

Each individual hair survives for an average of 4-1/2 years, during which time it grows about half an inch a month. Usually in its 5th year, the hair falls out and is replaced within 6 months by a new one. Genetic baldness is caused by the body's failure to produce new hairs and not by excessive hair loss.

Both men and women tend to lose hair thickness and amount as they age. Inherited or "pattern baldness" affects many more men than women. About 25% of men begin to bald by the time they are 30 years old, and about two-thirds are either bald or have a balding pattern by age 60.

Typical male pattern baldness involves a receding hairline and thinning around the crown with eventual bald spots. Ultimately, you may have only a horseshoe ring of hair around the sides. In addition to genes, male-pattern baldness seems to require the presence of the male hormone testosterone. Men who do not produce testosterone (because of genetic abnormalities or castration) do not develop this pattern of baldness.

So if you don't fancy castration start taking propecia:-)

Brembo: hm... left over brandy huh... I'm wondering, how does brandy or whiskey become 'left overs'???

Catch: hm... how time flies when I'm with my wife?

or in specific, during my marriage?

let me quote Pink Floyd...

I have always been here
I have always looked out from behind the eyes
It feels like more than a lifetime
Feels like more than a lifetime

Sometimes I get tired of the waiting
Sometimes I get tired of being in here
Is this the way it has always been?
Could it ever have been different?

Do you ever get tired of the waiting?
Do you ever get tired of being in there?
Don't worry, nobody lives forever,
Nobody lives forever

I will always be here
I will always look out from behind these eyes
It's only a lifetime
It's only a lifetime
It's only a lifetime

(it's not as dark and bitter as it sounds, but it's not exactly rosy pink and sweet either.)

But lately, with the arrival of my second boy, things have gotten a lot brighter... especailly since the day i had a long talk with a spinach farmer...

How about you? How's your nippy nissan doing?

Some people say the 2 years they have do in the military went fast and ofdten opt to do more time.. others say it seemed like 200 years.

Depends on whether your time together with your wife is a 2 or 200?

GGrass - No hair? So funny news you read. I thought your blog name gave me the impression that you are hairy with grass growing all over. You're still very young, so your blood circulation could be the factor. How about asking your wife to compensate by massaging olive oil with garlic on the thinning spot daily before shampoo? Chinese would prefer left over brandy or whiskey. Good Luck Grassy
