Teh recently registered blogger yuning has posted several blogs, the only intent of which is to entice readers to pay him/her/it for credits on online games. The blogs are all done with commercial intent. The coward yuning has, not surprisingly, blocked teh display of posted comments. yuning is nothing more than the equivalent of a spammer and should be teminated forthwith. I have no objection to blo....

Thailand needs a strong Constitution now more than ever

I think what Thailand needs now, more than ever, is a strong constitution that is a radical departure from all the previous abysmal failures.  Seven decades of lurching from coup to crisis to coup to mess to coup to conflict should suggest that there may be something seriously wrong with the constitutions themselves, and not just in the small details but at a much deeper level. The courts seem intere....

How to decide which votes count for how much?

The PAD now claims it is necessary to annul 70% of the voice of the Thai electorate in how it is governed. How is it to be determined which votes should count for how much? On what criteria are some people's votes to count for a lot more than others? By intelligence?  The fact is that rural people are as intelligent as city people. IQ varies very little  between provinces or between city and country.....

Intolerable Progress: the masses are acting up

Some things do try one's patience. If Samak and his government now resigned and fresh elections were held where there was no vote buying whatsoever (in fact and by evidence - please note that this clause began with the word if) with the result that the PPP were re-elected and Samak returned as PM,  then the PAD would carry on exactly where they left off. They have demonstrated no desire for democracy....

Has the Nation committed lèse-majesté ?
Posted by FelixQui , Reader : 427 , 12:15:45

The Nation's consistent refusal to hire a half competent proofreader has now led them to publicly publish something that appears to be a violation of Thailand's lèse-majesté laws: it is online at "Govt to launch campaign for national unity to honour Their Majesties" (¶ 4). It is certainly in extremely poor taste and betrays a reckless disregard for professional standards.....

Chinese Ministry of Ignorance in full swing

As the world prepares to assemble in their capital, the Chinese authorities are diligently pursuing their committment to public ignorance. Liu Shaokun, a teacher, has sent for a year of "re-education through labour" for posting photos on the Internet that were seen as a threat to the social order. What were the images? Well, they were images of  ....  wait for it  ....  schools that collaps....

The Puyai System is Disastrously Bad for Thailand

Some, including the Nation in a particularly weak editorial, have recently suggested that Thailand does not need democracy because it has an excellent and functioning puyai system. There is certainly a connection between democracy in Thailand and the traditional puyai system, and unhappily, it's supporters are right when they observe that the puyai system is an alternative to democracy in Thailand. I....

Persistent violation of Nation Blog guideline 9.

If you have a look at Yoon's recent post, "Blog TV...Sondhi declares: Our new mission is to kick out Samak govt..."  at http://blog.nationmultimedia.com/ThaiTalk/2008/05/30/entry-1 it is apparent that he has, yet again, violated the Nation's own Blog guideline 9., which clearly states: "9)   The blog is interactive, please do not post and leave. " There are good reasons for this g....

When will it ever end?
Posted by FelixQui , Reader : 551 , 22:02:13

I see that the Nation and other media are continuing their policy of compliantly condoning the suppression of free speech and the active fostering of ignorance on matters of serious public and political concern. It's sad, but understandable. If no one who could make a difference will ever take a stand, how can those same people, in all conscience, then complain about the ongoing malaise to which thei....

The Truth about UFOs

As fellow blogger Dalmasian noted in his comment 6, on "More Evil in Tibet",  whilst agreeing that it is a good thing that we can freely discuss such things, "many people who supposedly witnessed sightings of UFOs are afraid of being ridiculed in public and have elected to keep their mouth shut." There is a very (very) simple reason for this: much of the speculation about UFOs is ....
