The Puyai System is Disastrously Bad for Thailand

Some, including the Nation in a particularly weak editorial, have recently suggested that Thailand does not need democracy because it has an excellent and functioning puyai system. There is certainly a connection between democracy in Thailand and the traditional puyai system, and unhappily, it's supporters are right when they observe that the puyai system is an alternative to democracy in Thailand. I....

Persistent violation of Nation Blog guideline 9.

If you have a look at Yoon's recent post, "Blog TV...Sondhi declares: Our new mission is to kick out Samak govt..."  at http://blog.nationmultimedia.com/ThaiTalk/2008/05/30/entry-1 it is apparent that he has, yet again, violated the Nation's own Blog guideline 9., which clearly states: "9)   The blog is interactive, please do not post and leave. " There are good reasons for this g....

When will it ever end?

I see that the Nation and other media are continuing their policy of compliantly condoning the suppression of free speech and the active fostering of ignorance on matters of serious public and political concern. It's sad, but understandable. If no one who could make a difference will ever take a stand, how can those same people, in all conscience, then complain about the ongoing malaise to which thei....

The Truth about UFOs

As fellow blogger Dalmasian noted in his comment 6, on "More Evil in Tibet",  whilst agreeing that it is a good thing that we can freely discuss such things, "many people who supposedly witnessed sightings of UFOs are afraid of being ridiculed in public and have elected to keep their mouth shut." There is a very (very) simple reason for this: much of the speculation about UFOs is ....

More Evil in China

The Chinese government has just sentenced human rights activist Hu Jia to to three-and-a-half years in prison. What did he do? He honestly reported on human rights abuses. And the charge: "inciting subversion of state power and the socialist system". What that means is, he thought the CHinese people had a right to ... know what was happening. And he recklessly tried to tell people ... the t....

Get religion off the ID card, along with Mr, Ms, Miss, Mrs, ...

Now that another blog has brought up the issue of what should be recorded on a person's ID card, another long over due change would be to the habit of stating a person's religion. Teh government has no need and no business even asking people what their religion is. It might be useful to know the percentages in different areas, but an anonymous census can provide all that is required. People's religio....

Professionalism at the Nation: too many errors
Posted by FelixQui , Reader : 364 , 21:33:23

Although the Nation is far better than any of its local competitors, it is not perfect. One thing that annoys me are the too regular mistakes in grammar, especially in headlines. For example, a current front page headline reads: "Princess Sirindhorn asks officials to care ___ people paying tribute" (Errors are marked green.) The sense is still clear, but it sounds awful. I'm not a grammar o....

Attention admin., More plagiarism: Jomthap is a thief

The Blog "Euthanasia: The Ethics of Assisted Suicide" by Jomthap is stolen from the BBC website article "The ethics of assisted suicide". Not content with stealing, Jomthap has also elected to hide comments, which suggests that he is well aware that what he has done is wrong. Jomthap is a thief and a coward. However, since he might have been a new blogger and not the infamous Jerr....

Water on the Brain: it's all in the mind

True or False?People should drink at least eight glasses of water a day We use only 10% of our brains Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight They're all false or unproved. And tea and coffee are fine for hydration. For details, and more medical myths, see "Medical myths" in the British Medical Journal, at: http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/short/335/7633/1288 What I found most interesting, a....

Suggestion to Admin: Disallow hiding comments.

This is a boring and trivial post. It is just to let me vent my feelings and make a personal attack on the cowardly thief who goes by the name of "Jerrie". Jerrie is a thief. He copies and pastes other people's ideas into his posts. Some are half sensible, like his latest, others are perfectly idiotic (the Osho bilge). He never acknowledges his stealing. Is he also idiotic enough to think t....
